Digital TV
Television has already presented a vivid world in front of the people. And now, with the development of modern sciences, a new type of TV—digital TV has taken the place of traditional TV. It not only plays the role of the old-fashioned color TV, but also challenges the old ways of TV station broadcasting programs and the viewers receiving.
For example, one ex-change digital TV has one part of the screen which can show a menu, like news, TV program schedule, net work etc, while people can watch the ordinary TV programs at the same time.
Digital TV can also play roles of program-picking-up, advertisement-choosing, game exchange play, internet on line, shopping-on-TV, electric-commercial TV, remote TV education program, remote TV medical care, long distance working office, TV banking system, visual telephone, and TV-conference, etc.
Although digital TV will be very popular in the near future, and people will benefit a lot from it, it will also be very beneficial to the TV producers. The TV buyers will pay more and spend more time in front of the new toy. Also some people would commit some new kinds of TV crimes on them. The solution is to restrict the dark side and broaden the bright side of the modern digital TV.

Each person has his or her own ideal job. For instance, men might want to be sailors, sportsmen, scientists, businessmen, etc. Meanwhile, many young girls would like to be nurses, film stars, teachers, etc.

样卷5 14分
——切题,体现思想清晰,文字通顺,连贯性较好。基本上无语言错误,仅有个别小错误。
When we are asked about what we want to be in the future, we have different answers. We may want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a politician, a scientist or a worker and so on.
My ideal job is to be an excellent teacher. This idea came into being when I was very young. No one is born with knowledge. If I am a teacher, I will be able to turn an ignorant man into a learned person. I will teach what I know to my students. Sometimes I will be able to learn something from them because students are always active and creative. So life will be interesting and meaningful.
But I know it isn’t easy for me to be a good teacher. Being a teacher needs knowledge, patience, skills etc. First, I must study very hard so that I will be able to answer most of my students’ questions. Second I must learn to be patient. I shall tolerate students’ slowness in accepting now knowledge. I shall not be rude to them. Third, I shall have good skills. It doesn’t follow that a teacher with great knowledge can make himself understood quickly and clearly. Perhaps students may still be puzzled because they don’t understand what he says at all!
So, you see, different jobs require different talents. I will live up to the name of a teacher.
Making Friends
Friends are very important in our daily life. For one thing, friends play an important role in one’s character training. By making friends, one learns how to love, care and help other. While those who grow up without friends tend to be lonely and selfish and they are anything but easygoing. For another, when in trouble, one can turn to his friends for help or advice.
A true friend should be loyal. Whoever can share with us the joys and sorrows of life is our true friend. That is to say, he is proud of us when we are successful (wealthy), and when we are in need (poor) he is still ready to support us without betraying us or deserting us. Just as the saying goes, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
Then, how to make friends? The following is my personal opinion: above all, we should choose good people to make friends with because making bad friends is worse than having no friends, but that does not necessarily mean our friends are perfect. Secondly, the only way to have a friend is to be one. In other words, we should be honest, considerate and understanding, and treat our friends the way we want to be treated.
6 On Paying University Tuition
Although it has been argued that the university tuition will add up to the already heavy burden of the parents, it is essential that university students in China pay their own tuition.
Since China is a developing country with the largest population in the world, it is impossible for the government to allocate enough funds to support the development of higher education. To charge for tuition will partly solve the problem. The money raised could be used to accelerate the academic researches and to improve the housing condition on the part of both teachers and students.
On the other hand, with tuition being collected, Chinese universities will gradually establish a sound system of scholarships, fellowships and loans, which will encourage students to work harder in their chosen career and help those poor but talented students finish their undergraduate studies.
7 My Attitude toward Keeping Pet Dogs
In the past few years, the number of pet dogs has increased so rapidly in China that it has exceeded 100 million. Pet dogs might be good companions to some, while to the others, they are nightmares. It seems to me that the disadvantages of keeping dogs outweigh the advantages.
First, keeping pets is just a waste of time and resources. When you are tired of a day’s work, you will have to take care of your dogs to keep them clean. In addition, pet dogs consume a lot of grain products each year.
Second, the growing number of pet dogs has caused serious hygiene problem, which adds to the environmental pollution in the cities.
Third, pet dogs in public places may frighten other people; besides, a pet dog bite may lead to hydrophobia, a deadly disease.
In a word, keeping pet dogs should be forbidden or at least restricted in China.
8 Self-respect and Respectability Are Not to Be Confused
Self-respect and respectability are not to be confused. To have Self-respect means to like yourself, to be comfortable about your values and the way you practice them in your life. It is entirely an inner judgment you make of yourself, which no one else can make of you. Respectability, on the other hand, is a judgment others make of you. The person with respectability is one who, in the eyes of the others, adheres to conventional and accepted values. For example, a teacher with a sense of duty, responsibility and gentle dignity is often looked up to by his students and the woman with respectability may be regarded as a good mother, a faithful wife of a conscientious career woman. Of the two judgments, self-respect is psychologically healthier and of utmost importance. Only when one shows self-respect can he be honored by the others.
Social Activities
1. 社会活动对我们大有裨益。2. 但过多则有负面影响。3. 因此, 明智旳做法是…
Social Activities
Social activities benefit us in many ways. To begin with these activities can widen our knowledge, because we can learn what we cannot learn from books. Second, these activities can serve as a bridge between theory and practice, because we can learn now to put our book (theoretical) knowledge into practice. Lastly, these activities can enrich our experience, in that we can get to know the society so well that we can adapt to it easily when we graduate.
Too many social activities, on the other hand, will cause many problems. Study is the most important task in our daily life and social activities can only, and should always be a supplement. If we include in these activities, we will never be able to learn knowledge well. Consequently, we won’t be well-qualified students.
Therefore, it is suggested that we students spend most of our time and energy studying, and once in a while participate in some social activities. Only in this way can social activities benefit us a lot.
12 Health
As the proverb says: “No one knows the value of health until he loses it.” In other words, nothing is more valuable than health. It is clear that health is the foundation of one’s future success. If you become sick, it is nearly impossible to pursue your career effectively, much less make your dreams come true. On the other hand, if you are stout and strong, you can go all out to overcome the obstacles that lie ahead of you.
Now that we know that health is the resource of our energy, what should we do to maintain and enhance our health? First, we should exercise every day to strengthen our muscles. Second, we might as well keep good hours. If we get up early, we can breathe fresh air and see the sunrise. This habit can do wonders for our outlook on life. Third, there is a proverb that says: “ Prevention is better than cure.” If we pay close attention to our health, we can avoid getting sick, or at least cure ourselves of a disease while it is still in its early stage.
In conclusion, health is more important than wealth. Those who are rich but lose their health are no more fortunate than those who are poor. If you want your wish to come true, health is the most important part of your success.
13 Prospects of Private Cars in China
At present private cars in China are far less popular than those in developed countries. As China is still a developing country, most people’s income is not high enough to afford a car. Only a small number of movie stars, famous singers, rich managers and businessmen can enjoy such a luxury. Besides, in densely populated cities, people can hardly find any parking space even if they could afford to buy cars.
But with the rapid development of our economy, people’s income has been steadily increasing. It is quite possible that in a few years city dwellers with a higher income will be able to buy cars on their own. Then, they will not be satisfied with their small apartments in crowded cities. They will prefer to live in big houses in open suburbs though they may still work in the city. As a result, more and more bicycle users may become owners of private cars in the near future!
This will give rise to a series of problems. For instance, the streets will be jammed with cars and traffic accidents may increase accordingly. In addition, more cars will make greater noise and send off more poisonous gases into the air. That will do a lot of harm to people’s health. To avoid such consequences, effective measures should be taken in advance. On the one hand, old narrow highways should be broadened and now broad ones should be built; on the other, the number of cars imported or produced should be controlled; and if possible, new cars which do not produce any pollution should be developed.
