Unit 1
This week we asked student at Star High School about the __________ (good) ways to learn__________ (much) English. Many said they learnt by __________ (use) English. Some students had more specific__________ (suggest). Lillian Li, for example, said the best way to learn new words was by reading English magazines. She said that memorizing the new words of pop songs also__________ (help) a little. When we asked about studying grammar, she said, “I never study grammar. It’s too boring.”
Wei Ming feels __________ (different). He__________ (learn) English for six years and really loves it. He thinks studying grammar is a great way to learn a language. Liu Chang said that joining the English club at school was the best way to improve her English. Students get lots of practice and they also have fun. Last year my English class was difficult. First of all, it __________ (be) easy for me to understand the teacher when she talked. Unit 2
My __________ (big) problem is that I am too busy. When I __________ (be) young, I used to have so __________ (many) time, but these __________ (day) I get up early and stay in school all day. Then I go right home and eat dinner. Before I __________ (start) high school, I used to spend a lot of time __________ (play) games with my friends, but I just __________ (have) the time anymore. In the evening, I used to watch TV and chat with my grandmother, but now I have__________ (study). I love music, and my father used to take me to concerts. These days, I __________ (hard) ever have time for concerts. I do my homework and go to bed. I__________ (real) miss the old days.
Unit 3
The other day, my friends and I __________ (talk) about the rules that we have in school. At our school, we have to wear uniforms every day. The problem is that all my classmates think the uniforms are ugly. We think young people should look smart and so we would like __________ (wear) our own clothes. Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate more on our clothes than our __________ (study). We __________ (agree). We would feel more comfortable and that is good for studying. Unit 5
Our neighborhood used to very quiet. However, these days, strange things are __________ (happen) in our neighborhood and everyone is unhappy. If you’re looking for entertainment, stay at home and watch TV. Yellow River Fisherman is too long, and it’s really boring. It does have a few good features, though. I thought the __________ (fisherman) wife was really funny.
Be sure to see this exhibition at the Lido Gallery. Amy Kim is one of __________ (know) Chinese photographers in the world today, and some of her most famous photos are on display in this exhibition. She really has something for everyone. There are many great photos of people and of the countryside. The few city photographs are _________ (succeed). I see the same things every day and they don't interest me as much. But this is a great show from a world-class photographer. Whatever you do, _________ (miss) this exhibition.
Over the years, we’ve seen _________ (music) groups with pretty strange names come and go. Few have stranger names than this band. As the name _________ (suggest), the band has lots of _________ (energetic). And they play the kind of music that I love to hear. Every song is really loud and you often can’t understand the words, but this is okay because the lyrics aren't good. However, these are musicians who make happy – even on a Monday morning!
Unit 7
For your next vacation, why not consider _________ (visit) Paris? Paris is the capital of France and is one of _________ (live) cities in Europe. It doesn’t have any beaches or mountains, but there are still many things to do there. Unit 8
Number 77 High School is home to three very special young people: Li Huiping, Lin Pei and Zhu Ming. These three students all volunteer their time _________ (help) other people.
