Frost's Descent(霜降), the 18th solar term(节气)of the year, begins this year on Oct 23 and ends on Nov 6. It is the last solar term of autumn, during which the weather becomes much colder than before and frost begins to appear. People usually care a lot about the food they eat during this period.
Eating persimmons(柿子)can help people fight against the cold and protect their bones. Countryside people believe their lips(嘴唇)will become dry and crack if they don't eat any during this period.
In China, it's said that "Eat an apple after meals, even old men can be as strong as young men," just as the western saying goes, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away. "
The pear is another great fruit during Frost's Descent, which can moisten the lungs(润肺), clear away heat and reduce sputum (祛痰).
It's a custom to eat duck on the first day of Frost's Descent in the south Fujian province and Taiwan. As a saying in Fujian goes, "Even eating well all year is not as helpful as eating duck on the fist day of Frost's Descent. "
Eating chestnuts(板栗)during Frost's Descent is good for one's health, too. Chestnuts have a warm nature and they are sweet. They are good for the spleen(脾)and stomach, and increase the circulation of blood.
The date is also one of the fruits on the market during Frost's Descent. With a great number of vitamins, dates can be good for the blood. It lowers blood pressure and improves one's immunity. But eating too many could be harmful.

Recently, the decision to include eyesight as part of high school entrance exam has caused a heated discussion. Students in the city of Changzhi, Shanxi province will be tested on their "physical health", including eyesight. Those who fail to meet the requirement of "normal" eyesight will not get the full five points in their high school entrance exam, which decides if students can get accepted by the high school of their choice.
"In recent years, I have noticed that the No.1 problem that needs attention is poor eyesight. What makes this so terrible is that these students don't wear glasses. They even hate to say they have this problem, because they seem greatly ashamed. But how can you learn if you can't see well?" says Alexander, an American teacher in China.
However, not everyone holds the same view. Some believe that environmental problems can influence the eyesight. Eye illnesses, accidental injury(受伤)and improper use of eyes can also cause poor eyesight. Each of these should be considered before making this decision. It seems unfair, not well considered and may fail to reach the goal.
Here is what I think. First, why some students have shortsightedness is that their parents have it. Second, some being shortsighted is most probably a result of hard work. If those who work hard get lower scores than those who do not, tell me where fairness is? Third, rich families can afford expensive treatment of shortsightedness while common family cannot. I just feel so sad for students nowadays, for they are already under such heavy stress from the competitive environment.
36. Which of the following is not true according to the passage?
A. All Chinese students will be tested on "physical health", including eyesight.
