Can people in developing countries benefit from free trade? I quite think so. The most common advantage of free trade is fewer or no barriers between countries. This allows a freer flow of labor and goods between member countries. As free trade agreements become more common around the world, the positive influence on developing countries has been considered as one of the greatest successes of them. There are several advantages for developing countries that take part in free trade.
As developed countries are able to move their operations into developing countries, new job opportunities open up for local workers. Increased levels of employment lead to a higher standard of living and more consumer purchasing. This finally does good to the country's economy and may help to develop locally-owned businesses. As locally-owned businesses develop, more local people can find jobs there.
Child labor exists in developing countries for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is lack of technology. Free trade allows companies to spend more money on equipment and pay higher wages to adult workers. With higher family incomes, children are able to attend school rather than work.
Not only does free trade allow foreign-owned companies to establish themselves in developing countries, it also allows native companies to sell products to foreign markets. This is particularly true for small businesses in developing countries. These companies no longer have to worry about barriers to market entry and can sell their products freely.
An increase in employment levels and incomes in developing countries can lead to better medical care there. The final result is an increase in the average life span and a drop in infant (婴儿) deaths.
As is shown above, we can say that free trade really benefits developing countries.

A. Small businesses can get more skilled employees.

A 63-year-old Chinese carpenter’s traditional skills have become an unexpected Internet hit as he creates woodwork with a single piece of wood, without glue, screws or nails. Wang De wen, known as “Grandpa Amu” on YouTube, has been praised as the modern day Lu Ban, a well-known Chinese structural engineer during the Zhou Dynasty, thanks to his rich carpentry (木工手艺) knowledge.
Grandpa Amu’s most popular video, which shows him making a delicate wooden arch bridge, has gone viral on YouTube, gaining more than 40 million views. “If you do something, you have to love it, and you have to be interested in it; however, being interested doesn’t mean there’s only happiness and no pain.” Grandpa Amu shared when talking about his excellent carpentry skills.
His most popular works include a folding stool, a model of the China pavilion from the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and an apple-shaped interlocking puzzle, known as a Lu Ban lock. Grandpa Amu follows an ancient Chinese mortise and tenon (榫卯) technique, which means no nails or glue are involved in the entire process of building the arch bridge.
The master carpenter has also made several wooden toys for his grandson using the same technique. His young grandson’s favorites include a walking Peppa Pig and a bubble blowing machine. Attracting over 1.17 million fans on YouTube, Grandpa Amu’s videos so far have gained more than 200 million views.
His wonderful woodworking skills, using the same mortise and tenon joints found in the Forbidden City, were developed from the age of thirteen as a way of supporting his family in East China’s Shandong Province. “The grandson is so happy, as there have been so many fine and unique toys made by grandpa from an early age,” commented one netizen; while another said “It’s amazing. I hope these traditional crafts can be passed on!”

In 2019, more than 1.4 million young people around the globe took part in the School Strikes for Climate Action protests that were largely advocated by 17-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg. The inspirational young Swede, while a media favourite, is far from the first or last young person to fight for a better environmental future.
With the rise of social media in recent years, websites such as YouTube provide accessible coverage on ecological matters that quickly gather millions of views, and links to new scientific information are easily shared between peers. But, it’s not just online research that exposes the truth, and it’s not a distant threat either. Climate change is happening around us as we speak; an increase of droughts and heatwaves means a loss of crop production and one and a half acres of forest is cut down every second.
Of course, just because young people are now readily armed with statistics such as these doesn’t mean all adults will eagerly listen to them. Many write off young activists simply due to their age, and others still aren’t willing to see the environmental challenges we face, but that doesn't mean a difference can’t be made.
A study on participants aged 16-24 in the UN climate negotiations revealed that adults perceived younger activists as being more trustworthy due to the lack of financial incentives (刺激)to be there. Young activists often have an independent view of what's going on and, being free from politics, they often say what adults aren’t willing to.
So, it seems achieving a carbon neutral world in the fixture might depend on young determined voices inspiring experienced adults who can make a difference.
32. Why is Greta Thunberg mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. To show that the young activists are playing a part.
B. To give an introduction to Greta Thunberg.
C. To illustrate the seriousness of climate change.
D. To arouse readers' interest in environmental protection.
33. What does the underlined phrase "write off" in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Consider unimportant. B. Take seriously.
C. Give up. D. Write down.
34. what does paragraph 4 focus on?
A. The way young activists work.
B. The advantages young activists have.
C. The contributions young activists make.
D. The views young activists hold.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Greta Thunberg: an outstanding activist.
B. Climate change: a matter needing everyone's attention.
C. The rise of social media makes ecological matters accessible.
D. The young arc making a difference to the environmental future.

In a noisy world, the sound of silence is a gentle friend. Though it's available to all, silence is rarely embraced. Quiet relaxes, restores and helps you a lot. 36 The average person wakes up to an alarm and then turns on the radio or TV. Outside, planes roar and cars honk. In fact, too much noise can actually reduce your cognitive(认知的)function and lifespan.
It is time to tap into silence, a necessary and forgotten natural resource. Just setting aside 30 minutes a day for pure silence is healing. Shut off your phone, turn off the music, and spend time alone. Similar to meditation, this precious time allows your brain to refresh cognitive functions including creativity. 37
Two hours of silence per day can be helpful to cell development in the brain, where memories are formed. Even though relaxing music can be effective, silence is ideal. 38 When surrounded by silence, your consciousness has more freedom to process information. This can lead to better decision making and more acute self-awareness.
39 A recent report suggested that one in three people lose a whole year off their life due to noise. And this is linked to heart disease, sleep loss and high blood pressure.
Although many find silence to be empty and boring, it is a gift and a rare thing like gold. 40 And then simply stay with it. When you embrace it and let it fill you, you are open to healing and wellness.
A. Silence can generate brain cells.
B. Silence may assist in self-reflection.
C. Too much noise can have the opposite effect.
D. Try to move forward to a place of pure silence.
E. Noise can improve your ability to calm down quickly.
F. You may be so used to sounds and you hardly notice them.
G. This time will also help you to reconnect with your inner self.
