In the morning, we went camping along a path in Green Natural Park。 We were happy because it was a sunny day。 We were expecting an enjoyable two — day holiday. On the way, we kept singing and making jokes.
However, in the afternoon, when we finished our picnic at one o’clock, it was dark and windy。 Soon, there was a shower。 Unluckily, none of us brought an umbrella. We ran about but we could find no place to hide。
Twenty minutes passed and it was still raining。 There were hours to go before we reached the camp site (营地). It was even worse that our small compass showed that we went to the wrong way。 We had lost our way!
We had to make a quick decision as it was raining heavily。 Chris said we could set up a tent to hide in, so Mary and Tom helped to set up the tent。 Chris and I tried to make a fire to keep us warm。 But we were unable to light the fire, as everything was wet。 We dried ourselves, chatted and waited inside the tent。 At about five o’clock, it stopped raining。 We decide to give up the camping trip because all of us had been very tired。
This camping trip may not be very successful but we know each other better。 And the most important thing I’ve learned from this trip is the importance of team spirit.

The world itself is becoming much smaller by using modern traffic and modern communication means. Life today is much easier than it was hundreds of years ago, but it has brought new problems。 One of the biggest is pollution。 To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many ways. We see it, smell it, drink it and even hear it。
Man has been polluting the earth。 The more people, the more pollution. Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there were not so many people. When the land was used up or the river was dirty in one place, many moved to another place. But this is no longer true. Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.
Air pollution is still the most serious. It’s bad for all living things in the world, but it is not the only one kind of pollution。 Water pollution kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us angry more easily。
Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. They stop people from burning coal (煤) in houses and factories in the city, and from putting dirty smoke into the air。
Pollution by SO2 is now the most dangerous kind of air pollution. It is caused by heavy traffic。 If there are less people who drive, we will make our world less polluted.
The earth is our home。 We must take care of it. That means keeping the land, water and air clean。 And we must take care of the rise in population at the same time。

A young couple (夫妻) was talking loudly while they are looking at the paintings in front of me。 I watched them a moment. I felt bored because of their talking about the art. So I moved on。
I met them several times as I moved through those rooms of art。 Each time I heard her voice, I moved away at once.
I was standing at the museum shop buying some post - cards when the couple walked to the exit.
“He’s a brave man,” said the shop assistant. “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. But he and his wife come in whenever there’s a new art show。”
It explained the talk! A sudden sense of shame (羞愧) came to my heart for what I was thinking just now. “But what does he get out of the art?” I asked。
“His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head."

There have been many6 great inventions that have changed the way we live。 the first great invention was one that is still very important today — the wheel。 This made it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances. For hundreds of years after that, there were few inventions that had as much effect as the wheel did.
In the second half of the 19th century, many great inventions were made。 among them were the camera, the light and the radio。 These are all a big part of our lives today. In the first half of the 20th century, we saw more great inventions。 For example, the helicopter in 1909, movies with sound in 1926, the computer in 1928, and jet planes in 1930。 This was also a time when a new material was first made. Nylon was made in 1935。 It changed the kinds of clothes people wore.
By this time, most people had a very good life. People had a desire to explore the world again。 People knew a lot about the earth, but they didn’t know much about the universe. They began looking for ways to go into space. Russia made the first step。 Then the United States took the second step。 Since then other countries, including China and Japan have done so too.
In 1969, man took his biggest step from the earth。 Two Americans walked on the moon。 This is certainly just the beginning, too。 New inventions will some day allow us to do things we have never yet dreamed of。
