Ask students to read the new words.Teach the new words and make sure students can understand the meanings. CStep Ⅱ Section Ⅰ Before You Read Pairwork Think of people who need help.Write some ideas and discuss them with your partner. Ask some students to write about.People who need help and something we can do for them on the board. Ask students to work in pairs and discuss their ideas with their partners. CStep Ⅲ Section Ⅱ While You Read First ask students to read the words in the box. Then play the tape for students.Ask students to put the words in the box into the correct space as they read the text. Students read the text and do the activity. And then check the answers with the whole class. Reading strategy First read for meaning,not for detail.You can try to guess the meaning of a word only with the help of the context. Play some practice rounds first.Cue the first student on team A to say,I’m leaving school at 4:00.Cue the first person on team B to respond.[He (She) said he(she) was leaving school at 4:00.]Then cue the first student on team B to say,I play soccer every day.Cue the first student on team A to respond.[He (She) said he (she) played soccer every day.] Repeat the practice using pairs of sentences with am/was,will/would,and can/could. Then ask the members of each team to take turns making true statements and reporting what was said.Each time a team member correctly reports what the student on the other team said,his or her team gets one point.Continue to play until each student says a sentence and gives a response.
