Unit 9 When was it invented
【教学目标】
1.知识目标
1) 掌握以下词汇:
crisp, salty, sour, by mistake, chef, sprinkle
2)掌握并会运用下列重要短语和句型:
thin enough, salty enough, make the customer happy, in the end, a chef called George Crum
Potato chips were invented by mistake.
The customer thought the potatoes weren’t thin enough.
The customer said that they weren’t salty enough.
George wanted to make the customer happy.
He sprinkled lots of salt on them so they were really salty.
2.能力目标
听:能够听懂关于发明薯片的对话。
说:能够复述听力内容,并能用英语谈论该项发明的历史。
读:能准确且规范的读出本课听力材料内容。
写:熟练书写关于被动语态的句型,且书写认真规范
3.情感目标:通过学习本课了解几项发明的历史,开阔视野,扩大知识面,更加热爱生活,热爱发明。
【重点难点】
重点:能正确运用被动语态来讲述某项发明的历史。
难点: 能流利的运用本课语言知识自如的对话。
【教学过程】
I. Warm up
1. 检查生词预习
教师活动:出示写有单词的卡片,让生试读,教师及时正音,强调发音规则。听写单词:crisp, salty, sour, by mistake, chef, sprinkle, thin enough, salty enough, make the customer
happy, in the end, a chef called George Crum教师让2个同学在黑板听写,写完后让另外的2名同学来批改,其他的同学与同桌互批。检查完单词后,教师要多鼓励学生,并结合学生出现的错误适当的讲解一些有规律性的单词记忆法。
学生活动:个别学生站起来朗读单词,然后领读---学生自由读----齐读。写单词并互相批改单词。
2. 自由交谈
教师活动: 通过询问有关发明的问题,复习所学内容,表扬语言流畅,且发音规范者。例如:
—When was the telephone invented? —It was invented in 1876.
—What’s the heated ice cream scoop used for? —It’s used for scooping really cold cream. —Who was the heated ice cream scoop invented by? —It was invented by Chelsea Lanmon.
学生活动: 背诵Section A中的句子,熟练运用目标句型。
II. Pre-task (预备任务)
教师活动:创设情景:让学生以小组为单位就自己所了解的内容谈论一下potato chips,教师适当补充,让学生初步了解potato chips 的历史。
Do you like potato chips?
Have you ever eaten potato chips?
How often do you eat them?
Who were they invented?
学生活动:积极讨论探索potato chips的发明历史。
III While-task (同步任务)
Task1 1a:The words in the box describe how food tastes. Write them under the correct
pictures. (Some pictures have more than one word.)
教师活动:读题目要求,让学生用形容词填空,让学生用形容词造句。
学生活动:根据老师示范,填写形容词,并造句。例如: Potato chips are crispy and salty.
The orange is sour. How is the sugar? It’s sweet.
Task2 1b: Write the name of a different food after each word.
教师活动: 明确题目要求,让学生填空。
Task3 2a:Listen and circle “T” (for true) or “F” (for false).
教师活动:读题目要求,让生读并翻译2a中的句子,播放录音,核对答案。
学生活动:放第一遍录音,学生只是听。放第二遍录音,学生做题。

Task4 2b: listen again. Complete the sentences.
教师活动: 读题目要求,再放一遍录音,到关键句时停顿一下,给学生思考的时间,检查答案。然后让学生读听力材料,并把包括的短语写下来。
学生活动:认真听听力,抓关键词及短语。齐读,自由读听力材料并争取背诵。

Task5 重点短语:
① the history of potato chips, a chef called George Crum
讲解:在the history of potato chips中,of表示所有格。
例如:a map of China, a photo of my sister, the picture of our city, the name of his friend;
在a chef called George Crum中,called George Crum为过去分词短语作定语修饰名词a chef,
其中called可以用named替换。
例如:His grandfather lives in a village called / named Zhouchun.
I have a pet cat called / named Mimi.
② by mistake, thin enough, salty enough, make the customer happy, in the end
讲解:thin enough和salty enough中,thin和salty为形容词,enough修饰形容词的时候必须后置,修饰名词时可以放在前面也可以放在后面。
例如:important enough, tall enough, old enough, strong enough, enough money或money enough, enough time或time enough; salty为名词salt的形容词形式。
例如:Don’t put any salt into the noodles, they are salty enough.
③在make the customer happy中, “make sb. + 形容词”为固定结构,意思为
“使某人怎么样”,例如:
The beautiful scenery made us very excited.
The bad news made all of us sad.
Task 6 2c: Doing pairwork (Role play the conversation about the invention of potato
chips. Use the information from 2a and 2b.)
—Did you know potato chips were invented by mistake?
—Wow, I didn’t know that. Who invented them?
—They were invented by a chef called George Crum.

【教后反思】
