Unit2 Wish you were here Period 2 Reading: An adventure in Africa Designer: The Attached Middle School to Central South University Huang Yan Teaching Aims: 1.Knowledge and Skills : 1). Grasp the main idea of the letter. 2). Help the students make a travel leaflet. 2.Cultural senses: 1). Help the students to learn more about other countries in the world. 2). Help the students to understand when in Rome, do as the Romans do. 3. Emotion and Values : Develop the students’ feeling of beauty and love of life and our hometown while enjoying the nice mountains and rivers in the world. Teaching difficult and important points: 1.How to get the main idea of the letter; 2. How to make a travel plan/ a travel leaflet; Teaching procedures: Step 1.lead-in/warming up Share some beautiful pictures related to Africa while enjoying an exciting song about Africa. Step 2. Reading Task 1 Fast Reading 1. How will Colin and Toby travel through the desert ?( 2 words) ________________ 2. What activities does Toby think is dangerous but exciting? ( 2 words)________________. 3. How long will they travel in Africa? (3 words) ________________ Task 2 Careful reading Read the text carefully and fill in the blanks( each blank 3 words at most ). Task4 Retelling together A travel leaflet Week 1 take a flight from London to Morocco, the Sahara desert ride camels through the Sahara desert, camp in tents and sleep on the ground. Week2&3 go white-water rafting down the River Nile, the River Nile see wild animals in Kenya, Kenya live with the local people , eat and drink whatever they do, Week4 climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Tanzania Step4 Making a travel leaflet (group work) Now, Toby and his friends want to have a four-day travel in Hunan. Now, imagine you are a guide of a travel agency, please work with your group and make a travel leaflet for them. Step5 Presentation Present your travel leaflets to the tourists/the class.
