1. can
vt. （把食品）装罐；制成罐头 to place food in airtight metal or glass containers to use later: People don't can their own foods as much as they used to, today it is easier to buy canned and frozen foods. 人们不再像过去那样把那么多食物装到罐头里了，因为现在买罐头及冷冻食品比较容易。
n. 金属容器；罐头 metal container for keeping foods, etc.; tin: a can of fruit 一听水果 a can of milk 一罐牛奶
aux. 1. 表示可能性；可能；会 be possible; be likely: It can be very cold in Scotland. 苏格兰天气会很冷的。 Can it be true? 这可能是真的吗？ The book can be bought in any bookstore. 这本书哪家书店都能买到。 2. 能 (in polite question 在有礼貌的问句中): Can you come here, please? 你能来一下吗？ Can you tell me how I can get to the railway station? 请你告诉我去火车站怎么走好吗？ 3.（用于疑问或否定句中，表示惊异；不信等情绪）会，可能 (in question or negative indicate surprise, bewilderment, etc.): What can he mean? 他（会）是什么意思呢？ Can hard work change a person that much? 繁重的劳动能使人变化这么大吗？4.（表示能力）能；会 to be able to; to know how to: Mum and Dad can hardly write their names. 妈和爸几乎连自己的名字也不会写。 Who can prove it? 谁能证明这一点？ We can speak a little English, too. 我们也会说一点英语。 5.（表示允许）可以 be allowed to do something: Can I go swimming today, please, mum? 妈妈，我今天可以去游泳吗？ Can (或Could) I have a word with you? 我可以同你谈一下吗？ Steel, iron, glass, cloth and paper can all be recycled. 钢铁、玻璃、布和纸都可以回收。
2. ride
vt. 骑；乘 to sit on something which moves: Do you mean to say you don't know how to ride a bicycle? 难道说你自行车都不会骑吗？
vi. 1. 骑（乘） be carried along (on a horse or in a vehicle): We rode in the back of the car. 我们坐在汽车后面。 I shall ride on a horse. 我将骑马。 2. 前进；浮 move or float (on the water or in the air): The ship rides on the waves. 轮船破浪前进。 The bright moon is riding high in the sky. 明月高悬。
n. 骑马、骑车或乘车旅行 journey on a horse, bicycle, etc. or in a bus, car, etc.: We had a long ride in the car. 我们乘汽车走了一段长旅程。 The park isn't far away, it's only a short bus ride. 公园不远，乘公共汽车一会儿就到。 He lives in Deleville, which is only about an hour's ride from here. 他住在德拉维尔，乘车去那里只需一小时。
3. welcome
vt. 1. 欢迎；乐意接受 show that you are pleased when someone or something comes: He welcomed me when I arrived at his house. 我去他家时，他很欢迎我。 I welcome your kind help. 我欢迎你好意相助。 The King was welcomed by large crowds. 国王受到大批群众的欢迎。 2. 喜欢；赞成；欢迎 show that you like something: He didn't welcome the suggestion. 他不欢迎这项建议。 He welcomed my plan. 他赞成我的计划。
n. [U] 亲切的接待 a kind reception: He gave me a kind welcome. 他很亲切地接待了我。 What a good welcome they have given us! 他们多么热烈地欢迎我们！ They received a warm welcome. 他们受到热烈欢迎。
adj. 受欢迎的 pleasant to have or receive: The money he gave me was very welcome. 他给我的钱来得正好。A cool drink was welcome after the long, hot walk. 走了很长一段路后感到很热，喝杯冷饮可惬意了。Do all you can to make him welcome. 你要尽力款待他（使他感到受欢迎）。
int. （亲切的招呼）欢迎 (a kindly greeting) you are welcome: Welcome to China! 欢迎你到中国来。 Welcome home, dear Grandma! 亲爱的奶奶，欢迎你回来！

5. factory
n. 6. hotel

n. 10. doctor
n.[C] 1. 医生 a man who helps you and gives you medicine when you are ill: What is the duty of a doctor? 一个医生的职责是什么？ You look ill. Go to see the doctor. 你脸色不好，去看医生吧。 2. 博士 someone who has the highest university degree: He is a doctor of Medicine. 他是医学博士。He received a doctor's degree. 他获得博士学位。
vt. 1. 治疗，医治 give medical treatment to: She doctored her child for a cold. 她医治了她孩子的感冒。 2. 修理 mend; repair: The bicycle doctor is doctoring my bicycle. 自行车修理工正给我修自行车。

13. secretary
