Unit 8 When is your birthday?

In this lesson, the students will learn four phrases of school activities。They are English test, school trip, party and basketball game 。Sentence structure, “When is the English test? It’s on October 15th”

运用一般现在时描述学校活动以及相对应的日期表达方式。

通过听取关键字的方式提高听力的能力。
四、情感态度
能根据自己的日程表对自己的学校活动进行描述，培养对学习的兴趣。同时通过小组活动培养团结协作的能力。
Teaching and learning procedures
Step1：Warming up and revision
Review 1: Show the pictures of 12 months and ask the students to speak out the words.

Review 2: After the revision of months, then first review the ordinal numbers. Ask the students to write down the words according to the request.

Review 3: Show the pictures of five famous people and their birthday dates.

Then ask the students to make conversations like following:
A: When is Yao Ming’s birthday?
B: It’s on September 12th.
（设计说明：对月份以及基数词先进行复习，这是本单元的重点以及难点。然后复习When is...?的句型，既回顾了上节课所学的重点句型，又为本堂课所学习的新知识做好铺垫。）
Step 2: Pre-listening
Ask the students a question “ We have many school activities at our school, and what activities do you know?”. When they are answering, the teacher show some pictures on the screen.

Let the students read the expressions after the teacher. Then, they can speak them out by themselves. After that come to 1a. Match the pictures with the events.
Check the answers: 1.d; 2.c; 3.b; 4.a
The teacher ask the question, “What do they have now in picture 1?”. The students can say, “They have a basketball game.”

The teacher can make the students know more phrases such as: birthday party(生日晚会), volleyball game（排球比赛）and so on.
(设计意图：帮助学生掌握这些短语，可以减少听力中学生提取关键词的难度，帮助他们提高听力能力。)
Step 3：While-listening
1. Listen for the general idea.
Tell the students that Sally and John are talking about something. Ask the them to listen to the conversation and find out:
The conversation is mainly about _____.
A. about John’s calender
B. about Sally’s birthday party
C. to talk about the date of birthday

2. Listen for the details
(1) What activities does John have in September and October? Listen and circle the events you hear in 1a.

Check the students’ answers
(2) You have known what activities does John have, but do you want to know when they are? Now listen again and fill in John’s calendar.

After finishing it, the students can say out the answer like this: The school trip is on September 26th and 27th. The English test is on September 29th. The basketball game is on October 2nd. And Sally’s birthday party is on October 5th.
(3).You have got many details of this passage. Now listen for another time and fill in the blanks.
John: Hey, Sally. ____ I ask you some questions?
Sally: Sure, John.
John: When is your ________ party?
Sally: My birthday party is on ______ _____.
John: OK, and when is the _____ game?
Sally: The basketball game? Oh, it’s on October _____.
John: Good. And, umm, ________ _______ the school trip?
Sally: The school trip is on ________ 26th and 27th.
John: And when is the English ______?

After listening, check the answers.

Step 4：Post-listening activities
1. Pair-work
Firstly, let the students read the conversation in pairs. Then, ask the students to make conversations about John’s calendar like followings:
1) A: When is Sally’s birthday party?
B:It’s on October 5th.
2). A:When is the basketball game?
B:It’s on October 2nd.
3). A:When is the school trip?
B:It’s on September 26th and 27th.
(设计意图：通过小组对话，培养学生口语能力，同时语言点也得到了掌握。在小组活动的同时，学生的合作能力也得到了培养。)
2. Make a short report.
We also have many activities at our school. When do we have them? Let the students discuss in pairs. After the discussion, ask some students to report their answers. The teacher can look at the screen. They can speak them like this: We have many activities at our school.The school trip is on _________. And the soccer game is on ________. It’s a busy term.

(设计意图：将对话转成短文，从而完成对语料的转化，加强学生对知识点的掌握。同时为下节课的Reading做好了准备。)
Step 5：The end-of class test
I. 根据句意和汉语提示，用适当的短语完成句子。

教学反思：
本节课主要采用任务型教学法。因为月份以及序数词是本单元的重点，所以先对其进行复习，既巩固旧知识，又为本节课的学习做好铺垫。在听力的练习过程中，主要加强提取关键词的和速记的能力，提高学生的听力能力。本节课与学生的学校生活联系较大，在教学的过程中可以较多的联系学生的学校的生活。在课堂检测中，可以在学生做完后小组内进行交换批改，同学之间进行交流改进。
不足：
在听后活动这一环节小组活动时给学生的准备时间稍短，学生刚开始进行表演时不熟练，耽误了一些时间，导致课后练习时间稍紧。
使用建议：
1．一定要提前布置给学生预习内容，便于学生更有目的性的去预习，提高上课效率。
2．尽可能结合学校的活动，创设情境，让学生在实际生活中能够学以致用，培养学生学习英语的兴趣。
