Step l Warming-up
1. Ask the students to talk about their old things and ask ‘Who gives you? When and why? How do you do with it now?
2. Show time:
Act out their dialogues in class.
Step 2 Before reading
1. Show students a mind map of the new words to consolidate the new words.
2. Watch news report about "The family are having a yard sale?”.
3. Predict (Show the picture in 3a)

Step 3 While reading
1 Fast reading
Ask the students to skim the passage.
1) Check their predictions.
2) Try to answer the question:

2 Careful reading
1) Read Para. 1 to answer the following questions
1. Why did they decide to have a yard sale?
2. What do they want to do with the money from the sale?
3. What do they want to sell?
4. Why does the son want to keep his train?
2) Read Para. 2 to answer the fallowing questions
1. What did I want to sell?
2. Why did I want to sell it?
3) Read the whole passage and answer the questions. (3b)
4) Students read the whole story and find out the difficult points.
5) Discuss and try to use the useful expressions in groups.
