Teaching plan Of Chapter 3 Detectives and crimes
Teaching aim: Overview
This chapter is about detectives and crimes. The main passage is an interview between Pansy and Detective Ken, who tells pansy about one of his cases.
The Listening section contains a task about identifying stolen jewellery, in which students have to listen to a description and identify the correct pictures.
The Language section contains several exercises featuring Detective Ken, where students are asked to practice using infinitives and gerunds after verbs.
The Speaking section is a role-play game in which two theft suspects mst try to give the same story during two separate interviews.
In the Writing section, students must use pictures and notes to write a report of a crime.
The cartoon
The joke in the cartoon depends on the fact that the detective character assumes that the broken arm is called Lo, and not that the robot is called Lo. The cartoon introduces a funny detective character, and suggests what the topic of the chapter will be detective character, and suggests what the topic of the chapter will be.
Moral target: Teach students to behave well.
The First Period
Important points:
a. Do some pre-reading activities.
b. Learn some new words about the reading.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Pre-reading activities
1. Tell students to look at the cartoon, and explain it if necessary.
2. See a music video and have a brainstorm activity.

3. Play a game---Have a competition:
Ask Ss to guess the detective according to the information given. The earlier you know the answer, the more marks you will get.

The Second Period
Important points:
a. To review the new words students learnt in the last class.
b. To have a whole understanding of the passage and ask the students to answer some questions about the passage and then conclude synopsis of each paragraph.
c. To have a discussion and have an activity about the passage.
Teaching procedures
Step1. Revise new words
Give Ss several minutes to go over the new words and expressions quickly.Then ask them to fill in the blanks with the words and expressions learnt last time.

Step 3. Ask the students to read the passage by themselves and tell what each paragraph means.
Synopsis:
P1-2: Pansy asks Ken why he likes working as a detective and Ken says he wants to protect the innocent and find the guilty.He uses his recent case as an example.
P3-4: Ken investigated the case. He found some clues and suspected Jill was the thief.
P5-6: Ken kept on his investigation. Jill claimed that she had lost the earring a week
before. Ken checked her story and found it was true.
P7-8: Ken further questioned Li and li admitted stealing his own vase for the insurance money and trying to make Jill the suspect.
P9-10: Ken confirmed that Li was arrested and Jill was innocent.
Step 4.Play the recorder and students listen to the tape about the stories.
1. The whole class read the passage in chorus.
2. Read the passage again and finish doing Exercise E----Read and think
Reaching conclusions:

3. Have an activity---- 4 Ss in a group and let them play the role of Jill, Jenny, Mr. Li
and Detective Ken. Think about some words for the four roles and change the
passage into dialogues. And then act out the story

The Third Period
Contents: Explain some key points in the reading passage and Conclude some important phrases. Do some complementary exercises.
Important points: Be familiar with the reading passage and master the usage of the key
words.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Revision.
a. Dictation----15 new words and expressions. (from recognize to belt)
b. Text reciting---- Para 1- 4.
Give Ss several minutes to be familiar with P1,2,3 and 4 of the reading passage. Then ask some Ss to recite it one paragraph by one paragraph. At last ,ask some good students to try to recite the the whole 4 paragraphs.
Step 2. Check the students’ exercises they did before class. (Workbook)

Note:
宾语: 1). 能以不定式作宾语的动词常见的有:like, want, hope, wish, expect, need, hate,prefer, continue, manage, try, ask, offer, start, forget, mean, begin, decide, learn, agree, choose, refuse, plan, help 等。
2). 动词tell, advise, show, teach, find out, decide, discuss, learn, forget, know等常用一个连接代词或连接副词的不定式做宾语.
e.g. We didn’t know who (whom) to ask.
She teaches us what to do.
They forget when to go.
宾补:1). 能以不定式作宾补的动词常见的有:want, wish, expect, ask, tell, beg, order, help, allow, drive, invite, encourage, remind, warn, teach, require, call on, ask for, wait for,等。
2). 感官动词see, watch, notice, observe, look at, hear, listen to, feel等及使役动词 have, make, let之后,不定式作宾补要省去不定式符号to.
