1. by介词，用来表示方法、手段等，意为“由；靠；用；通过”，后跟动词时用动名词形式。
2. unless意为“如果不；除非”，相当于if…not。该词引导条件状语从句。例如：
I won’t go unless Lucy is invited. 如果露茜不被邀请，我也不去。=I won’t go if Lucy isn’t invited.
3. Why don’t you…?意为“为什么不……呢”，表示说话人的建议或劝说。相当于Why not (+动词原形)?
4. not at all意为“根本不；全然不”，“不用谢”。例如：
—Do you object?你反对吗？—Not at all. 毫不反对。
I don’t know it at all. 我一点也不知道这件事。

5. end up意为“结束”，后接动词-ing形式。end的相关短语有：in the end最后，终于，at the end of在……的尽头，by the end of到……末为止。
6. It doesn’t matter.意为“没关系”，常回答sorry。
7. trouble作名词，意思是“困难；苦恼；忧虑；毛病”。作动词，意为“打扰”，同bother。常见搭配有：What’s your trouble? What’s the trouble with …? get into trouble陷入困境，be in trouble处于困境（苦恼）中，have trouble doing sth.做某事有困难。
8. It’s too hard to understand the voices. 此句中的it作形式主语，真正的主语是后面的动词不定式。It引导的形式主语的句型有：It take sb. some time to do sth.，It’s +adj. (+for sb.) to do sth.，It’s + n. (+for sb.) to do sth.。
9. be afraid to do sth. 害怕做某事，be afraid of sth. 害怕某物，I’m afraid that+从句意为“我恐怕认为……”。

Reading for pleasure is the easiest way to become a better reader in English. It is also the most important way.
Some students say they don’t want to read for pleasure. They say they want to use their time to learn the rules of the language and new words. They say that pleasure reading is too easy.
In China, more and more middle school students are getting shorter sleeping time than before. Most students sleep less than nine hours every night, because they have much homework to do. Some homework is given by their teachers, and some by their parents. Also, some students don’t know how to save time. They are not careful enough while they do their homework, so it takes them a lot of time. Some students have to get up early every morning on weekdays to get to school on time by bus or by bike. It can be a long way from home to school.
