Step 1 Review
1. Make a conversation about booking tickets. Students can make it according to the form.

Step 2 Presentation
1. The teacher says: “They have booked tickets and rooms. How much money should they pay for them? Now, let’s help Helen work out her trip cost. ” Teach new word: fund,raise
2. Read the pictures in 1 and help Helen work out the trip cost. Finish 1.
3. Teacher: How much should Helen pay for the trip cost?
Students:About three hundred yuan(¥300).
Teacher: Does Helen have so much money? What will she do? Now, let’s listen to the tape.
4. Listen to the tape. The first time, students only listen. Then let students read it.
5. In pairs, the students read the conversation. Finish 2.
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Teach the new words in 3a.
2. Read 3a. Learn something about how foreign students raise fund for their trips.
3. After reading, let students tell true or false.
(T) It is popular to raise fund in Canadian and American schools.
(F) It takes students two yuan each to buy tickets for a draw to become King or Queen for a day.
(F) At noon, the principal and other teachers order and serve a special lunch for all the students.

4. Students read 3a again and finish 3a.
5. Group work. Finish 3b.
6. Help students list at least 3 ways of fund raising that would work in Chinese schools.
For example:
① We can collect and sell waste paper or old cans.
② We can help others do the housework to raise money.
③ Work as a waiter or a waitress in a restaurant in our free time.
Step 4 Practice
1. The teacher writes some sentences on the blackboard. Make sure the students pay attention to “so, so...that”and “so that”.
For example:
① Michael missed the game, so he was very sad.
② Kangkang got up so late that he was late for school.
③ I left my keys on the office desk so that I couldn’t get into my house.
2. The teacher explains the sentences, make sure the students understand the adverbial clause of result.
3. Work alone. Students read and practice the sentences in 4.
4. Finish 4. Let students make up their own sentences with “so”,“so...that” and “so that”.
Then the teacher asks some students to read or write down their sentences and correct them.
