Lesson 2 Meet You in Beijing
I. Analysis
Analysis of this lesson: This lesson begins with an e-mail form Li Ming to Jenny. They will meet in Beijing and have a pleasant trip to China together. This lesson talks about trip and plan. It is close to the students’ life so it can stimulate students’ interest in learning.
Analysis of students: Students are in the second term of Grade 7. The new words are abstract for them, so I should make up some sentences with these new words. I will let them know and understand the new words in real life situation. Considering students’ different abilities, I divide one task into two levels. So the students can choose the one that they can do.
II. Teaching Aims
Knowledge: 1. Master the new words: exciting, along, kilometre, special, culture, leave and arrive.
2. Talk about distance. Master the key sentences: How far is it from... to...? It is …kilometre(s).
3. Can use Simple Future Tense.
Ability: 1. Develop the students' ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
2. Encourage students to express themselves in English, especially talk about plan for a trip or other activities.
Emotion: 1. Let the students know more about Chinese culture.
2. Arouse the students’ interest in learning English and enhance their confidence to speak English.
3. Encourage students to make plans for themselves and improve their speaking abilities.

Step 1: Lead-in
T: Boys and girls, how is the weather today?
Ss: Sunny.
T: it is sunny, right? The weather becomes warmer and warmer so I want to go out to have a trip. Do you want to go with me?

T: Where do you want to go?
Ss: …
Lead in this lesson by dialogues among students and me. A trip is close to students, so it is easy to stimulate students’ interest.
Step 2: Learn New Words
T: Look at the screen. Let’s see my plan for our trip to Beijing.
On the first day, we will visit Tian’anmen Square, the Palace Museum and the Great Wall. They are old buildings in China, so we will learn about the culture of China.
(Students read “culture” together then read it one by one.)
On the second day, we’ll walk along Wangfujing Street. And we’ll eat Beijing Duck. It is the special food of Beijing.
(Students read “along” “special” together then read it one by one.)
On the third day, we’ll visit Happy Valley. We’ll play many games there. The games are exciting.
(Students read “exciting” together then read it one by one.)
How can we get to Beijing? How far is it from Baoding to Beijing?
Ss (look at screen): It is about 150 kilometres.
(Students read “kilometre” together then read it one by one.)
T: So we’ll arrive in and leave Beijing by train.
(Students read “arrive” “leave” together then read it one by one.)
T: Do you like my plan for our trip?
Ss: ...
T: Let’s meet in Beijing.
Create a real life situation then lead the students to learn the new words. It can help students have a better understanding of new words. And they can also learn about the sentences of Simple Future Tense and a plan for a trip.
Step 3: Listening

T: We know Li Ming and his friends will also meet in Beijing. What will they do? Listen and judge.
Develop students’ listening skills. Let them have a general idea of the lesson.
Step 4: Reading
T: Now we know Li Ming and his friends will visit Xi’an and Lanzhou. What else will they do? Read and choose.
Develop students’ reading skills. Let them know the details of this lesson. And emphasize the new words in the exercise.
Step 4: Exercise
T: Look at these pictures. They are Li Ming and his friends’ plan for their trip. Look at them then finish the dialogue.
Review new words again. Practice the Simple Future Tense.
Step 5: Practice
T: Look at the blackboard. Let’s say something about Li Ming’s trip together.
Li Ming and his friends will learn about the culture of China. They’ll walk along the Silk Road. They will eat special food of China. They’ll arrive in and leave these cities by train. Their trip will be very exciting.
Now read the text loudly then talk about Li Ming’s trip. You can make up a dialogue with your partner or a speech by yourselves.
Help the students to retell the text. Develop their ability of summarizing and expressing. Let them talk about others’ plan. I divide this practice into two levels so students can choose one they can do.
Step 6: Further Reading
T: So much for Li Ming’s plan. I want to show you my plan. Read the passage then fill in the blanks.
Show them my plan and let them know how to make a plan in details.
Step 7: Practice
T: Can you talk about my trip?

Develop students’ ability of making a plan.

T: We’ve talked about Li Ming’s and my plan. Now can you make plans for yourselves?

T: You have two choices. The first one is to make a dialogue with your partner. The second one is to write a short passage by yourself.
Students have two choices. They can choose only one task that they are able to do.
Homework: Finish the dialogue or your plan.

VI. Reflection After Class
1. Exercises and practices of this lesson are close to students’ life. It is easy to stimulate students to take part in class activities. They can understand and use new words and the Simple Future Tense well.
2. I divide the tasks into two levels so the students can choose one they can do. It is useful for all of the students to take part in class activities actively.
3. I lead the students talk about Li Ming’s plan in general then talk about my plan in details. At last let them talk about or write down their own plans. Students can learn how to make a plan step by step.
4. This lesson also has some shortage. For example I should give students more time to practice.
