An example: Hamsters are popular pets. People like them because they are quiet and clean.
People think they are easy to take care of and they are cheaper than rabbits or cats. They are very small so people don’t need to have a special room. Though sometimes they are noisy at night, most of the time they just sleep all day. They are very lovely.
IV. Having a debate
Can middle school students keep a pet ? we’ll have a debate about if middle school students can keep a pet. Are you for it or against it ? Divide Ss into two groups.
A: I think every kid should have a pet. Because one family has only one child. Pets can be good company.
B: I don’t think so. Animals usually are noisy and dirty.
A: But you can clean it every day.
B: Of course I can. But it takes too much time.
A: Maybe you can ask your mother to help you.
B: But that’s my pet, not my mother’s.
A: Wow……
V. Enjoy American culture
Read an article “Americans and their pets”, then answer some questions.
Ss can learn more about American culture.
