《Unit 4 Amazing things》Period 5 Grammar 1教案
Step 1
Draw the following timeline on the blackboard and tell the students the difference among the Simple Present Tense, the Present Continuous Tense and the Simple Past Tense.

Step 2
Give students some common time expressions: yesterday, last night, a month ago, yesterday afternoon, last week, ten years ago and make sure they can use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past.
e.g.

got up
yesterday morning.
had breakfast
went to school
yesterday afternoon.
had lunch
did my homework
had supper
yesterday evening.
went to bed
Step 3
Teach them how to form the simple past tense
a, regular verbs:

一般在动词原形末尾 加-ed

结尾是e的动词加-d

末尾只有一个辅音字 母的重读闭音节词,先 双写这个辅音字母,再 加-ed

Write about the past. Present the following words and let students change them into the simple past tense forms.
1. start → started 2. dress → dressed
3. play → played 4. help → helped
5. use → used 6. like → liked
7. look → looked 8. study → studied
9. plan → planned 10. cry → cried
Then ask students to fill in the blanks with the past tense forms of these words. Ask several students to share their answers.
b, irregular verbs:
We form the simple past tense of irregular verbs differently. We do not add ‘ –ed’
No change
Change the vowel
Change the consonant
Change the vowels and the consonants
cost-cost, put-put
come-came, ring- rang
make-made, send-sent
do-did, buy-bought
Then give students some words and change them into the past forms. If they don’t know , they can check the wordlist on Page 112.

Ask several students to write down the answers. Then check the answers in a whole.
4 Explain the instructions to Part A2 on Page 67 and ask students to fill in the blanks. Tell them they must use the simple past tense form of the verbs. If they don’t know the past tense forms of these words, they can check the wordlist on Page 112.
