Is It Wise to Make Friends on Line?

Nowadays, making friends on line has become a fashion amongst youngsters. Statistics show that sixty percent of people aged between 15 and 35 have online friends. However, as far as I am concerned, a lack of safety and its tendency of leading people to escape from the reality make it unwise to make friends online.

One of the outstanding drawbacks of making friends online falls on its safety. Bestowed a distinct nature of vagueness, the internet is notoriously known for its handy convenience in hiding real personal information. To put in other words, one is not able to know whether his online friend has faked his history and real situation. Based on a dubious identity, a safe and sound friendship is unlikely to be built, let alone the numerous numbers of news reporting robbery and rape stemmed from meeting online friends.

Besides concerns about life and property safety, making online friends may help develop a withdrawal character of the internet-addicted. Too much engagement into online friendship may cause young people to shrink from difficulties in reality, turn down real social interaction and even develop anti-social character as well.

In conclusion, a sense of insecurity and its negative impact on character formation are intense enough to deter youngsters from making friends online. Traditional though, building up tangible friendships seems much more favorable.
