The Fire Mountain
There are mountains that send fire and smoke high into the air. They make the earth shake. Houses may fall down. Sometimes people call these mountains the fire mountains. The fire mountains are volcanoes. Inside the volcanoes, there are holes that go many miles deep into the earth. The inside of the earth is very hot. It is so hot that even rocks melt.
But some of these fire mountains are gentle. They do not make a big noise or shake the earth. Fire mountains like these can be found in different parts of the world. One of them is in Italy.
The people of Italy use this fire mountain to make electricity. The heat from the mountain turns water to steam. The steam runs an engine. The engine makes the electricity that lights the houses at night.
Many cities must burn coal to make electricity .The people of this town have put their volcano to work instead.
