Dear Prof. James A. Hendler:

I am an undergraduate from Jilin University, one of the top universities in China, majoring in Software engineering. I am extremely interested in the topics about intelligent agent, semantic web. I read your earlier paper "Agents and the Semantic Web", and I was impressed by the view that "the integration of agent technology and ontologies could significantly affect the use of Web services". I was also attracted by your study about semantic web agent, the web ontology language OWL. Moreover, the two themes "Semantic Portal Wiki" and "Inference Web" of your TWC are really what I want to explore, so I really hope that I can join the your "TWC" and do research under your supervision. Will you accept Phd student next year?

Now I do my research on automated-negotiation of intelligence agent in the "Jilin University SoftLab". My research focuses on the bilateral multi-issue negotiation of intelligent agents. I am working on constructing an opponent model using Reinforcement learning to model the behavior of the negotiation counterpart. I used to cooperate with my teacher and publish one conference paper (third author:" Adaptive Multi-Issue Agent-Based Negotiation Model" in a not so famous International conference. The model tries to capture the opponent preference to improve the negotiation efficiency. And we also finished a negotiation model based on fuzzy inference. Before I join the lab, I won the prize of "Meritorious Winner" in Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) in April 2010. And the Second Prize in China in Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM), and the First Prize in our province. Thanks to the Mathematical Contest, I become familiar with the process of academic research and gain some skills in academic writing, problem-solving, and learn some model mathematical technique like simulated annealing by myself. In addition, I have a strong background in computer science after taking the course of data structure, programming algorithms, database, and computer network, etc. My average score for the major courses is 86.

I do attracted by the excellent work of TWC in semantic web, and admired your fundamental work about the semantic web agent, so I really hope I can have this opportunity to do research under your supervision.
