Ⅱ.阅读理解
Many kids turn up their noses at the thought of eating fish, because, well, it can smell “fishy”. While it is usually a healthy source of protein in the diet, there may be several reasons to avoid biting into a forkful of fish. Before you break out the tartar sauce, learn some facts about fish to keep yourself and the environment healthy.
Some fishes may contain harmful chemicals, which can be the result of both natural causes and water pollution. Mercury is a poisonous chemical, which occurs naturally in oceans and the Earth's crust, but also comes from manmade sources, such as pesticides, burning garbage, and the releasing of fossil fuels.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), a group of chemicals, can also be found in some fishes. These dangerous manmade chemicals were used in many industries until 1977, when they were banned. PCBs were released or leaked into the air and wa ter and have been transported around the globe.
How do mercury and PCBs end up in fish and the food supply? When they are released into the air, they attach themselves to particles. These particles settle on the ground and in the water and are eventually eaten by microscopic organisms.Small fish eat the microorganisms, and large fish eat the small fish and on up the food chain.
Because they can negatively affect your health, the U. S.Environmental Protection Agency advises that kids younger than 15 years old avoid fishes that contain high levels of mercury and PCBs. These include shark, swordfish and king mackerel.
There are also many fishes that are good for you, but because of overfishing, some are in danger of being wiped out. Some are being fished in the wild so much that they cannot reproduce fast enough to survive. Others are being farmed in ways that are not environmentally friendly. These fishes include red snapper, Atlantic salmon and king crab.
Despite these problems, there are several fishes that are both healthy and sustainable, such as Alaskan salmon, American catfish, Pacific cod, and several farmraised fish and shellfish.
1.How do mercury and PCBs come to our food supply?
A. Mercury and PCBs⇒ water⇒ fish⇒ particles⇒food supply.
B. Mercury and PCBs ⇒ particles ⇒ organisms ⇒ fish ⇒ food supply.
C. Mercury and PCBs ⇒ particles ⇒ fish ⇒ organisms ⇒ food supply.

Ⅲ.任务型阅读
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。(注意:每空只填1个单词)
A scientist once said that studying the stars from the earth is something like looking up at the sky from the bottom of a swimming pool. Even on the clearest night the earth's dense atmosphere will dim stars in the sky as it screens out (遮挡) 30 percent of their light. Air turbulence (湍流) causes stars to twinkle. Through a telescope, the stars seem to jump around dizzily.
Because the moon has no atmosphere, astronomers are looking forward to setting up an observatory there. On the moon, there will be no clouds to obscure the view. The sky will appear dark at all time, so astronomers can work twentyfour hours a day. Because there is not air turbulence, the stars will steady through a telescope.
Because the moon is relatively near the earth, moonbased astronomers will see the stars in familiar patterns known on earth. They will not need new star maps of the sky. Stars seen from the moon will appear to move very slowly. Because the earth rotates (自转) on its axis once every twentyfour hours, earthbased astronomers see the stars hurry across the sky each night. The moon rotates on its axis only once a month. To astronomers on the moon, the stars will appear to stand almost still. Moonbased astronomers will have much more time to focus their telescopes and take timeexposure photographs.
On the earth, manmade radio noises jam the airwaves and interfere with the reception of radio signals from certain stars. A radio telescope located on the far side of the moon will be permanently protected from such interference.
It won't be easy to put telescopes on the moon. However, astronomers are certain the job can be done. They are convinced that the moon is an ideal place to set up an observatory.
