Comparison between British governmental system and American governmental system
The forms of government of contemporary capitalist countries are either constitutional monarchy or democratic republic which can be classified as presidential republic, parliamentary republic. Britain is a constitutional monarchy while America is a presidential republic.
The British governmental system and American governmental system do have something in common. First of all, both the Britain and the America are capitalist countries. So their governmental systems serve for the capitalist class. Secondly, both of them have a bicameral parliament. The British parliament consists of The House of Commons and the House of Lords. However the American parliament is composed of the senate and the house
There are still many differences between British governmental system and American governmental system.
In UK, a monarch whose rule is handed down by his family is the head of state, but the monarch does not have the real power. However, in America, people vote to choose a president and the supreme authority resides in the President.
In UK, parliament is the chief power of the country; The House of Commons who wielded great power is made up of Members of Parliament who are elected by the people of Great Britain to run the country for them. The chief function of the House of Lords is to rubber-tamp bills sent to them from the House of Commons. The law vested the council with broad powers: the power to legislation; to supervise the government; to control the financial policies and so on. In America the president is the center of authority .The U.S. constitution has separation of powers: separation of executive, legislative, and judicial powers. Each supposed to be independent and able to check and Balance each other. These branches and their various powers are delineated in the American Constitution; the powers are specified in greater detail in laws enacted by Congress. The United States Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government, The Constitution grants numerous powers to Congress. These include the powers to levy and collect taxes, to coin money and regulate its value and so on. But its power is smaller than the parliament of UK, limited by the president to a certain extent.
In UK, the government is consists of the prime minister and his subordinates. So it is produced from the parliament. America government, including president and vice president is independent. The President is the head of state and government as well as the military commander-in-chief and chief diplomat. The President presides over the executive branch of the power; The Vice President is the second-highest executive official in rank of the government. He helps the president dealing with domestic affairs.
In the United States, the flag holds special place in the political heart of the nation and people sing to it. In Britain the flag is rarely prominent at political events. American elections depend on vast sums to purchase broadcasting time. Parties and candidates in British elections cannot buy broadcasting time.
In the USA, the term of a President, Senator or Congressman is known precisely as four years, six years and two years respectively and the dates of the elections are fixed. In the UK, the term of members of the House of Commons and therefore of the Government is legally a maximum of five years but a Prime Minister can call a general election whenever he or she wishes .
The advantage of the British governmental system is that it's faster and easier to pass legislation. This is because the executive branch is dependent upon the direct or indirect support of the legislative branch and often includes members of the legislature. In America, The government is directly responsible to the electorate as a whole. The separation of powers Protect he freedom of the people, because no one can grasp at authority by himself. But the president has real power contribute immensely to stabilize the political situation.
Nothing is perfect in this world; the political systems of Britain and the United States both have their shortcomings. Government system of America did not recognize the importance of morality in politics. The government is based on view of “every ego had the nature of the Devil”.
And separation of powers is one of the important causes of struggles between different parts, which will severely affect the government effectiveness. The conflict between two parties has lasted for many years which has damaged their image and spend a lot of money. Property Right is a critical weakness too. On the other hand, the British government has to spend a lot of money to cater specially for Royalty——House of Windsor and the royal scandals make people disappointed with the royal family,.furthermore ,the head of government is in almost all cases not directly elected. The prime minister is elected by the members of the House of Commons. So it can not represented the opinion of every voters.
