There are two poems revolving around the theme of love. They expressed two totally different views.
First poem name is Love is not all. It is the author of Edna St. Vincent Millay. She is the first in U.S. history getting a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry by woman. Thomas hardy said, ”America's two big charm: skyscrapers and Edna's poem”. But meanwhile social orthodox people resented her unique Bohemian life style and the love story about her with other woman or other man. In 1917, when she was 25-year-old, she came to New York and began flourishing and controversial writer career. When she was 31-year-old,she married with Eugen who is 12 years older than her. This is an open marriage. She has many famous poet lovers, for example, George Dylan. Her 14-line poem is a lot associated with him.
This poem expresses her escaping love. She felt love is not the only. She thinks that love can not help the hungry, can not help people for shelter, can not save lives and also can not cure disease. But there are a lot of people who give up lives for no love and fall days because there is no love. So, she would rather quiet life, and giving up on love
The second poem name is General Review Of The Sex Situation. It was written by Dorothy Parker. Dorothy Parker was one of the most successful and influential women writers of her era. Dorothy Rothschild was born on August 22, 1893 in West End, N.J. Her mother was Scottish and her father Jewish. She was "a late unexpected arrival in a loveless family". At the age of four her mother died. Her father remarried and Dorothy's home life was strained and distant at best. She was educated in private schools in N.J. and N.Y.C. Dorothy suffered two tragedies as a young woman. Her brother Henry died aboard the Titanic and a year later her father passed away. In 1917 she married Edwin Parker, a stock broker. The marriage only lasted a brief time, In 1933 she once again traveled to Europe where she met her second husband Alan Campbell，In 1949 she divorced Alan Campbell, but later they remarried.
He thinks the love in men and women's eyes is completely different. Meanwhile ,for men and women, love is not fair. Her point can not inseparable from her childhood experience. She believes that love being in the woman's fantasy. A woman is in love with her husband wholeheartedly and only for a person to live. But, for man, there are many other pleasure of life. They will not only for a woman to love.
Now that is like this, so what pleasure can we get from it？ This is her doubt.
In modern society, many people also holding this two views about love. Most of the people who holding the first view experienced a lot of stories. They think they have seen through the essence of love, think it just so so. So they no longer have expect and hope for love. They closed their heart. Later when they in love, they just covet short of happiness, but not expecting true love happen. This is unavoidable to let people think it is a kind of game life attitude. I cannot agree with this view. For love, we should be something to look forward to, and should be full of enthusiasm.
I think, good love can bring people courage of overcoming the difficulties and also can broaden our horizons. Although, love is short, and it is the wealth of our lives. Love must be accompanied by pain, but we can not give up love because of the fear of injury, just as we will not give up traveling because of travel fatigue. Whether joy or sad, we should face them brave. Because this is our life. The people who is holding the second idea of love is almost women. They have many longing for love. They are very eager to eternal love, but the reality was once again to let them down. Therefore they have been disappointed to love, and also disappointed to the man. Actually, each people should understand that this kind of perfect love is not exist in the real life. And also all men are not the same. Perhaps because, men and women are born with a lot of different, so, for love attitude is different. In the real life does not lack the husbands and wives who grows old together, this is because they understand responsibility this word's meaning. The two men loved each other can get together, only love is not enough. It still need them to each other's responsibility. Only a responsible man can have the ability to maintain a long-term love.
Love is not a moment of pleasure. It is the result of two person's careful management.
