Hong Kong cricket wants a chief executive officer. And it will pay more than HK￥1 million per annum for the right man.
“We want to remain relevant and present ourselves as a more professional organization to the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council. For this we need someone full-time who can give direction to our current administration,” said Darren Tucker ，chairman of the Hong Kong Cricket Association（HKCA）,yesterday.

Tucker refused to reveal how much the new chief executive would receive. But it is reliably understood the incumbent will get a monthly salary in the region of US＄10,000,plus housing and other perks. “We have appointed an agency to handle the recruitment. They will be looking for people in Hong Kong as well as overseas,” Tucker said.
The deadline for applications is February 20 after which the HKCA board of directors will vet the candidates.
“We don’t have the ammunition, or resources, within the association to run our day-to-day affairs professionally ,”Tucker said. “There is so much going on with regard to development and getting more grounds for the game which are two of our main goals, and we need someone who can overlook these aspects.”
Work commitments means Tucker spends most of his time overseas. With HKCA president Terry Smith also spending most of his time abroad, the body is mostly rudderless.
“We need a person who can provide leadership to our staff. We need someone who can think out of the box and creatively,” said an HKCA source.
Tucker hoped the new chief executive would be able to take up his position as soon as possible.
“There is a degree of urgency. We need someone right now,” he said.
