Learning to communicate in another language may be challenging, but it is also a very rewarding and enriching experience. It is the best passport to discovering another culture. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of the experience. Work at your own pace. Make the most of the time you have available to study. You will find you can learn more effectively if you study for half an hour every day, rather than try to do a whole unit in one sitting. Why not learn with someone else? It helps if you can learn with someone else. If you can persuade a friend or family member to study with you, it will give you extra motivation to keep working. Remember that you can go a long way with just a little language. Even if you feel unsure about your ability to form right sentences, you’ll find that it is possible to communicate with just a few words. Above all, don’t worry about getting things wrong: people will still be able to understand you. The more confidence you gain in communicating, the more fluent you’ll become. Build up your vocabulary. A wide vocabulary is the key to successful language learning but don’t try to learn too much at once. It’s best to study frequently. Put words into sentences to fix them in mind, and come back to them later. Learning vocabulary in this way is usually very effective. And most of all, have fun! 41. Learning to speak a foreign language is the key to enjoying another ______. A. challenge B. culture C. experience D. discovery 42. In the writer’s opinion, it is better to study ______. A. for half an hour every day B. a whole unit at a time C. more than an hour a day D. at any time in the day 43. The writer advises you to learn a foreign language ______. A. all by yourself B. at home C. by traveling around D. with someone else 44. This passage is basically about some ______ of foreign language learning. A. news B. notices C. suggestions D. advertisements C. The world economy has run into a brick wall. Despite countless warnings in recent years about the need to address a potential hunger crisis in poor countries and an energy crisis worldwide, world leaders failed to think ahead. The result is a global food crisis. Wheat, corn and rice prices have more than doubled in the past two years. And oil prices have increased more than three times since the start of 2004. These food-price increases. combined with increasing energy costs, will slow if not stop economic growth in many parts of the world and will even affect political stability. Practical solutions to these problems do exist, but we'll have to start thinking ahead and acting globally. Here are three steps to ease the current food crisis and avoid the potential for a global crisis. The first is to promote the dramatic success of Malawi, a country in southern Africa, which three years ago established a special fund to help its farmers get fertilizer and seeds with high productivity. Malawi’s harvest doubled after just one year. An international fund based on the Malawi model would cost a mere $10 per person annually in the rich world, or S10 billion altogether. Second, the U.S. and Europe should abandon their policies of paying partly for the change of food into biofuels. The U.S. government gives farmers a taxpayer-financed payment of 51 cents per gallon of ethanol (乙醇) changed from corn. There may be a case for biofuels produced on lands that do not produce foods — tree crops, grasses and wood products — but there's no case for the government to pay to put the world's dinner into the gas tank. Third, we urgently need to weather-proof die world's crops as soon and as effectively as possible. For a poor farmer, sometimes something as simple as a farm pond — which collects rainwater to be used in dry weather — can make the difference between a good harvest and a bad one. The world has already committed to establishing a Climate Adaptation hind to help poor regions climate-proof vital economic activities such as food production and health care but has not yet acted upon the promise. 45. An international fund based on the Malawi model would______. A. cost each of the developed countries $10 billion per year B. aim to double the harvest in southern African countries In a year C. decrease the food prices as well as the energy prices D. give poor farmers access to fertilizer and highly productive seeds 46. With the second step, the author expresses the idea that ______. A. it is not wise to change food crops into gas B. it is misleading to put tree crops into the gas tank C. we should get alternative forms of fuel in any way D. biofuels should be developed on a large scale 47. Which of the following is true according to the passage? A. A rain-collecting pond is a simple safeguard against dry weal B. A Climate Adaptation Fund has been established to help poor C. The world has made a serious promise to build farm ponds. D. It makes a great difference whether we develop wood products or not. D On Wednesday the Chinese government called for schools nationwide to teach students about the swine flu and its prevention.      The campaigns should be launched as soon as possible, in all schools, to raise awareness of prevention and avoid causing unnecessary panic among teachers and students, according to a circular (政府文件) jointly issued by the ministries of education and health.      Schools should emphasize teaching students to develop good hygiene habits, such as avoiding contact with people with flu symptoms and stay in crowded places, frequently washing hands with soap and fresh water, and covering the mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.      “Students in rural areas should avoid contact with pigs or pig farms,” it said.      The circular asked educational administrative departments and all schools to increase efforts to keep campuses clean and well-ventilated (空气流通的).      “Schools, those in rural areas in particular, must strengthen management if any pigs are raised within campuses,” it said.      The circular stressed that all school cafeterias should make sure pork is cooked thoroughly.      “Hygiene administrative departments (监察部) and disease control and prevention centers should promptly report suspected cases of the disease,” it said.      China has no reported swine flu cases, but the possibility should not be ruled out as the swine flu is already spreading in some countries. 48. This article can most probably be a _______. A. diary of an official B. report in a newspaper C. composition of a student D. letter from a doctor 49. From the context, we can infer that the underlined word “hygiene” means ______. A. being diligent and busy B. being careful and closed C. being optimistic and active D. being clean and healthy 50. What would be the main idea of the passage? A. Don’t eat pork that is not thoroughly cooked. B. Simply wash your hands with soap and water. C. China urges flu prevention education in schools. D. Hygiene administrative departments are busy now. 51. We can infer from the text that ______. A. The swine flu has caused a big panic in schools. B. It’s impossible to cure patients of swine flu in China. C. The swine flu will spread in Chinese schools sooner or later. D. China pays special attention to the safety of the school students. E Seeing a volcano erupt is a wonderful experience, and you can really feel the beat by climbing to the summit(山顶) of Pacaya for a close-up view. There are guided tours every day up this highly active volcano from Antigua. Giving travelers a chance to see Mother Nature at her most powerful. Pacaya is an easy drive from Antigua, a beautiful city with many colorful houses along its old streets that are turned into art-works during its Holy Week festival. No matter when you come to Antigua, you won’t miss the Pacaya-tour companies. But climbing Pacaya is no easy job: it is 2560 metres high, and reaching the summit takes two to three hours of seemingly one-step-forward and two-step-back movements. As you climb, you hear the dull sounds of eruptions high above. Steaming. Hot remains from recent eruptions begin to line
