Unit 4 Why don’t you talk to your parents? Section A(1a---2c) Teaching plan & design Teaching analysis Ⅰ. About textbook 1. Textbook analysis This is the 4th Unit from “Go For It” in Grade 8, the topic of this unit is about asking problems and giving advice. In this period, the students are guided to finish listening and speaking activities, learn to use sentence patterns about what’s the matter and why don’t you do to practice what they learned in this class. 2. Teaching goals: 1).Emotional aims: 1. Get students to konw how to communicate with others politely. 2. Life is colorful. Whatever problems you meet, whenever you meet them, don’t be afraid of them. Don’t complain too much. Just try hard to solve them. Believe that you can do anything if you try your best. 2). Ability aims: Use the sentence pattern”Why don’t you ...?”to give advice politely. 3). Knowledge aims: At the end of this period, the students will learn to a. Master how to express the problems of teenagers in English. b. Learn how to ask and give ways. A: What’s the matter with you? B: I +problems. A: Why don’t you do sth? B: You are right. Thanks for your advice. A: No problem. Hope things work out. 4). Teaching important points Arouse students’ interests by telling of problems. 5). Teaching difficult points: To learn how to communicate with orthers. II. About students: Students analysis 1. The students in this school are above average level in Xi’an. They are skilled in listening, speaking, reading and writing with better ability of comprehension and analysis. 2. Knowledge background: Students have learned how to talk about others with modal verb"could/should" politely to express permisson and requests in Unit3. So it’s a little easy for them to learn this part. III. Teaching methods: l Task-based teaching and learning(finish the given tasks individually or in groups) l Situational teaching method (show problems and let students give advice ) IV. Learning methods: l Cooperative learning and practice (Listening ability improvement and Role-play the conversation) l Communicative learning method (Role-play the conversation using the sentence pattern fluently) IV. Teaching aids: PPT Ⅴ. Teaching procedures & ways: Step 1 Warming-up &leading in 1. Ask students to look at a picture and lead in the topic. Step 2 Show the learning aims Emotional aims: Get students to konw how to communicate with others politely. Ability aims: Use the sentence pattern”Why don’t you ...?”to give advice politely. Sentence patterns: A: What’s the matter with you? B: I +problems. A: Why don’t you do sth? B: You are right. Thanks for your advice. A: No problem. Hope things work out. Step 3 Pre-class Test(课前预习检测) Complete the sentcences according to the Chinese to check students’ preview work. (the teacher needs to be helpful if they need). After finishing, one of them will explain the answers) 根据汉语提示完成句子。 1. I have to study too much (用功学习)so I don’t get enough sleep(睡眠不足). 2. Sandy has too much homwork(太多作业)so she doesn't have any free time to do what she likes(做她喜欢的事情). 3. Bob's parents don’t allow him to hang out with friends(不允许他和朋友外出闲逛). 4. These days teenagers have too many after-school classes(太多的课外辅导班). 5. Peter got into a fight with his best friend (和他最好的朋友打架了)yesterday. Step 4. Situation learning method 附:环节的设计意图 Round One: 1. 图片与句型的结合更有益于学生在完整的语境中感知目标语言的使用,记忆更深刻; 2. 情境中感知连词:so, so that, although, but的用法。 Round Two: 1. 提现小组合作学习的重要性,体会“众人拾材火焰高”的道理,增强小组的凝聚力; 2. 通过听取别人的意见,拓宽学生自己的思维; 3. 采用“优代弱”的学习方式,让后进生对英语学习产生兴趣。 Round Three: 1. 训练学生不仅能听懂材料,完成课本内容,更要培养学生对细节理解和内容提炼的能力; 2. 训练学生如何快速、有效地将听到的内容记录下来。并且能达到复述的效果。 3. 培养学生准确理解说话者的意图和有效进行语言交际的能力。 Round Four: 1. 提升学生的勤总结、善发问、优化资源的意识; 2. 提现小组合作意识。 Round Five: 1. 学生从所给的三个情景中选择进行分角色表演,联系实际、贴近生活,真正为学生提供很实用的帮助; 2. 口语检测学生的“说--听--说”三环节后语言实际运用能力。 Round Six: 1. 学生的情感升华需要有一定的语境,触碰到内心深处。所以教师创设情境便是为了让学生懂得与他人相识是一种缘分,且行且珍惜; 2. 帮助学生如何正确处理自己与自己、与他人之间的矛盾。 Step 6 In-class Test (课内及时评价) Complete the dialogue and fill in the blanks with appropriate sentences according to the context. A: Hi, Bill. You look unhappy. What’s wrong with you? B: I didn't pass the English exam again. A: I’m sorry to hear that . But please don't give up. B: Well, maybe my way of learning English is not right. A: How do you learn English/What’s your way of learning English ? B: I learn it by doing my English homework early in the morning. A: Oh, you should read books instead. It's easy to remember things early in the morning, don't you think so? B: Mm, perhaps you're right. I'll have a try. A: Do you take notes in English class? B: Never. I only listen to what the teacher says. What do you think of the way? A: I think it’s not a good way . You should write down the important things the teacher tells you. After class, review them as soon as possible. B: OK. I'll do as you tell me. A: Good luck to you! B: Thank you for your advice . Step 7 Self-assessment Ask the students to do self-assessment by themselves l Give yourself a word to encourage you to show better later. l Which class activities do you like best?
