15、Don’t you just hate it when you have to take an important phone call and you’re finding somebody is listening to you? You either have to keep your voice down or go outside to keep the conversation private, which is not exactly ideal(理想的). Now, a new product can help you.
Hushme is a high-tech mark(口罩) that can block the sound of the wearer’s voice so that people nearby can’t hear what is being said. It connects to your phone with Bluetooth and comes with a pair of earphones. When you get a private call, all you have to do is to put the mask on and it will do the rest.
The Hushme mask, which has different kinds of colors, can be worn around the neck, and in front of your mouth. It’s not yet clear how comfortable speaking with this Bane-like mask over your mouth really is, or how well it works. We know so far is that it makes you look strange.
The sound choices for covering your voice currently include wind, ocean, rain, birds, monkey, squirrel(松鼠), R2D2, laughing Minion6 and Darth Vader breath. And new ones could be added in the future.
You could also always use Hushme to protect your ears from loud noise from the co-workers at the office. Just put this small product over their mouths and you can get on with your work.

16、Amos Dudley, a 24-year-old boy who studies digital design at New Jersey University of Technology, felt ashamed about his teeth. But being a student, Dudley didn’t have the money to get braces(牙箍). So, he decided to
3-D print his own and marked down the DIY project in a recent blog post. His braces totaled less than $60, and after wearing them for 16 weeks, his teeth are also getting straighter.
Months ago, he mentioned on his blog that he avoided smiling for a while because he was unhappy with his teeth.
However, clear braces can get pricey, costing up to $8,000. But after studying some images of these expensive clear braces, something comes up on him--they looked like that one which can come from a 3-D printer.
So he decided to hit up his school’s 3-D printing equipment and scanned and printed models of his teeth. He
then made non-harmful plastic molds (模子) around them to make 12 sets of braces.
Dudley, who does not recommend attempting any of this at home said that he didn’t ask a dentist for his project. But the student did get information from journal articles and textbooks. And though this was a perfectly
friendly choice to buy braces. He didn’t accept the project just to save money--he was also up for the challenge. “When I realized that I could do something that was a little bit special, while proving my skills as a designer

17、London used to be “foggy” for the same reason that cities like Beijing or Chongqing are “foggy” today. The “fog” was in fact smog, a mixture of smoke and fog. In other words, it was made by air pollution. In London, some of this pollution came from factories, but much of it came from the coal(煤)that people burnt in their houses to keep warm during the winter. By the 1950s, London’s smog problem had become so bad that the government decided to do something to clean the air. A new law was made and nobody could burn coal in any British city. Within a few years, the air became much cleaner. There were no more “pea-soupers”.
Many Chinese cities now face the same sort of problem with air pollution that London faced 40 or 50 years ago. However, this problem is more difficult for Chinese cities to solve. One reason is that more of the pollution comes from the factories, rather than from coal burnt in people’s houses. If these factories were closed, this would harm the economy and lots of people would lose their jobs. Another reason is that changing from coal to cleaner fuel(燃料), like gas, is quite expensive.
However, the air in many Chinese cities is becoming cleaner and cleaner, as the government and people pay more and more attention to cutting down pollution. As a result, there are fewer “pea-soupers” in Beijing than there used to be.

18、Tigers are terrible animals, but a cat is a cute animal. As a mother, the Chinese-American writer Amy Chua is just a tiger . Her book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother (《虎妈战歌》), tells us how she gives her two children education. She says that being strict is the only way to train a child’s talent. Her kids had to obey the following rules. To begin with, her kids weren’t allowed to watch TV or play computer games. Then, they were not allowed to “ hang out ” with other kids after school. They had to be the top students in their class. And they had to practice the piano and the violin for hours every day. Of course, she believes this has brought a lot of problems for herself and her kids. But she doesn’t mind because her kids have become great. Chua says, like her, most Asian mothers are tigers because they believe their children can achieve a lot if they’re pushed hard enough. She says American mothers are really cats. They care more about their children’s self-respect (自尊). They don’t want to be strict with their kids because this may hurt their feelings. With soft words and understanding, they encourage their children to choose for themselves. So is a tiger mom better than a cat mom? It may also depend on the child.
1.The writer of this passage wants to _________.
A.tell that Tigers are terrible animals, but
