London Eye
London Eye is located on the south bank of the Thames River, between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge and it is also near the famous Big Ben.
This is probably the best way to see the city of London. Run by British Airways, it towers 135 meters above the ground, the tallest observation wheel in the world! It was founded to celebrate the new century. Now it is London’s number 1 tourist attraction.
A trip on the wheel is called a “flight”, not a ride. A flight lasts about 45 minutes. About 3.5 million people took this “flight” in the first twelve months of its birth, and millions have since. It is the most visited site in the United Kingdom.
The British Museum
Established in 1753， the British Museum lies in the Great Russell Street of London.
The British Museum is regarded as the world’s oldest public museum. It has a display area of over 60,000 square meters. There are more than 100 showrooms in it. It has an outstanding collection of items inside from all over the world. The British government and the museum departments concerned have spent 200 years in collecting a lot of precious historical relics from Britain and every country of the world, especially from Egypt, Greece, India, Japan, China, etc. And it has four million of showpieces altogether.
The British Museum can be visited free all day, which is good for knowing the ancient civilization.
Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square, at the heart of London, is one of the city’s most vibrant (生气勃勃的) open spaces. It was built in honour of Admiral Nelson. This followed his victory in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. You can find two great fountains (喷泉) at the Trafalgar Square and wonderful sculptures (雕塑) in them. Trafalgar Square is always full of pigeons (鸽子) and tourists who are taking photographs.
