Teaching aims: 1.Can listen, say, recognize the words: hear, special, nearly, together; the sentences: Can you tell me about American festivals? Yes. My favorite festival is Thanksgiving. Families are together. We have a big special dinner. 2. Enable to know the culture of American festivals and describe the customs of Thanksgiving. 3.Be thankful for all the good things we have. Don’t forget to say Thank you to our parents, teachers and friends. Encourage the students to have good cooperation with one another.  Focus points & difficult points: 1. Can listen, say, recognize the four new words. 2. Enable to grasp the sentences of “Can you tell me about American festivals?”and “Thanksgiving is an American festival” Teaching preparation: PPT, word cards, tape, computer Teaching Steps: Step1:Warm –up 1. Free talk. T: Hello, boys and girls. Ss: Hello, Miss Gao. 2.Brainstorm. Use the computer to show some pictures about the festivals, one student stand up and say “What festival is it?”and”When is it?” out quickly. Step2: Presentation 1.Lead-in. T:There are so many festivals.Which is your favorite festival? Ss:... Show the picture of Simon,and then say “Hello” to Simon. T: What’s Simon ’ s favorite festival? When is it? Listen to the tape with several questions. Q1:What is Simon ’ s favorite festival? Q2:When is it? 1.Lead students to answer the questions. 2.Listen again with the Q3:What happens? Discuss the answer in team,then team report. Learn the new words: special,together.Then read and write several times. T:Thanksgiving is an important American festival.What did Simon do for Thanksgiving? Did you hear the poem? 3.Read the text after the tape.Show the word “hear”. Learn the new word “hear”, compare to “listen”; The word “near”compare to “nearly” Let the students to read and write the new words more and more. 4. Read the text. Try to retell what people do on Thanksgiving according the blank. Families are .We have a big , dinner.We say thank you all the things we have.We have a lot of .Thanksgiving is very in America. Step3: Practice . 1.Read the dialogue in different roles. 2.Summary: Can you tell me about Thanksgiving? 3.Group Work: Thanksgiving is an American festival,can you tell me some Chinese festival,what’s your favorite Chinese festival?work in pairs. 4.Group report T:Now let’s make a survey----What’s your favorite festival? To investigate your friend, write down what is his or her favorite festival and why. Step 4: Summary On Thanksgiving day, people say thank you for all the good thing they have. Do you want to say thank you to someone or something? Ask the students to say what or who they want to be thankful for. “ From now on, be thankful for all the good things we have. Don’t forget to say thank you to our parents, teachers and friends.” Step5: Homework 1,Enable to listen, say, recognize the words: hear, special, nearly, together; the sentences: Can you tell me about American festivals? 2, Practice reading the dialogue of Module 4. 3,Write a short passage to introduce the custom of Thanksgiving and the Spring Festival.
