Alarm clocks used to be a simple product that shows the time and rings when set. Here we put together a list of cool alarm clocks which not only wake you up but also make you work for them. Here is an alarm clock that requires some effort to turn it off. You must throw the hand grenade alarm clock away like a true grenade in order to stop the madness. This could truly be what people want when waking up tired. The only problem is…it won’t get you out of bed. You want something that will make sure to get you out of bed? A carpet alarm clock will do. She read the book quickly until she found the page she was looking for, and then began to read carefully. Next, Betty opened a box in the kitchen and picked out the tools she needed — a hammer, a wrench, and several small things, it was no easy job for her to do the repair, and she tried several times. Finally, the water tap was in pieces. One by one, she carefully laid them out on the table. That way she would know how they went back. While this was going on, her cat walked over to watch what she was doing. Betty worked late into the night. At one point, she thought she was done. Oops! A small piece that she had forgotten still lay on the table. Slowly Betty opened the water tap one more time. This time she made sure everything was in place. She turned the water tap on and then off. One... two... three... She waited a full minute. There was no leak! Betty smiled and put the tools back into the box. Then she went back into bed. The next morning, Dad was in the kitchen when Betty got up. “Notice anything, Dad?” she asked. He looked around and listened. "Hmm, something’s missing... I can’t find out what it is... Wait, it's too quiet here!" “That's right,” Betty said, “Something is missing. I fixed the water tap. In 1990 the world’s use of paper was about one kilogram for each person a year. Now most countries use as 50 kilograms of paper for each person in a year. But such countries like America, England and Sweden, use more paper than other countries. Paper was first made in China about 2,000 years ago. It was made from the hair like parts of certain plants. Paper was not made in southern Europe until about the year 1100. In 1500, a German named Schaeffer found out that people could make the best paper from trees. After that the forest countries of Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making. When we think of paper, we think of newspapers, books and writing-paper. But there are many other uses. Only half of the paper is used for books and magazines. Paper is very good for keeping you warm. Houses are often insulated(隔绝冷或热) with paper. You may see some people sleep on a large number of newspapers. They are insulating themselves from the cold. In Finland sometimes the temperature is 40 degrees centigrade below zero. The farmers wear paper boots in the snow. Nothing could be warmer. Each year more and more things are made of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time. Now we hear that chairs, tables and even beds can be made of paper. With paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses and paper raincoats. When you have used them once, you throw them away and buy new ones. People have made paper boats, but they haven’t made paper planes or cars. Just wait—perhaps they will make planes or cars someday. 41.How much paper does each person use in a year in most countries at present? A.One kilogram. B.Fifteen kilograms. C.Forty kilograms.
