Most of us believe that our parents will always be there for us. But this is not for “left-behind” children. Their parents work in cities, leaving them behind in the countryside to be taken care of by their grandparents.
Up to now, China has million children left behind, which is about one-third of all rural(农村的) children. With Spring Festival arriving, Ministry of Civil Affairs(民政部) is calling on migrant(外出打工的民工) parents to return home and celebrate the new year with their kids.
In fact, children living without their parents can face many problems. For example, their grandparents may not be able to help them with their homework or raise them properly. This can result in children having an unsociable(孤僻的) personality.
The government has taken some action to care for and protect left-behind children, such as sending social workers to rural areas. They will report to the government if they find that any left-behind children are suffering from abuse(遭受虐待). But the best solution is to bring parents and children back together. The government has encouraged migrant workers to return to their rural hometowns to look for work. Another solution is to make it easier for rural children to attend urban(都市的) schools in the cities.
