Module 1 Life in the future Period 2 Reading and Vocabulary Teaching goals: 1. To improve Ss’ reading skills and the ability; 2. To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about the future life; 3. To get Ss to know something about the predictions about the future life; 4. To make Ss learn how to analyze sentences and master some words and phrases. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Leading-in 1. Show Ss some scenes from a movie about future to arouse their interest in future life. 2. Show some pictures about the city in the future to guide Ss to the theme The City of the Future Step 2 Words exercise Ss should be familiar with some words before reading to help them understand the passage easier. (Activity 3 on page3) Step 3 Reading 1. Fast reading: (1) Let Ss read the passage quickly and find out the topics mentioned in the passage. p alternative energy p environment p traffic p weather p entertainment p shopping p crime p schools p public services (2) Ask Ss to divide the whole passage into two parts: Suggested Answers: Part one: the first paragraph—general idea of the future city. Part two: paragraph 2-11— predictions for specific aspects of the future life. 2. Intensive reading: Ask Ss to read the passage carefully and answer the questions in Activity 6 on page4 in pairs. 3. Consolidation: Let Ss read the passage again and complete the following chart. In the future, ______________________ will become very important as we will _________ earth’s natural resources.
