A(2010年课标卷)
There were smiling children all the way.Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang(槟榔屿).Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia.I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car,so this was the first time I was on a train.I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen magazines to read and reread.I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face.I sighed and sat down to read my Economics.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway(堤道) and in Malaysia.Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore,so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past.As we went beyond the city,I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight.Immediately I came alive.I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting.I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me.Even the trees were smiling.I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry.I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm.Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth.I looked at the people all around me.They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile,I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug (拥抱).I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey.

Planning a visit to the UK? Here we help with ways to cut your costs.
AVOID BIG EVENTS Big sporting events, concerts and exhibitions can increase the cost of accommodation and make it harder to find a room. A standard double room at the Thistle Brighton on the final Friday of the Brighton Comedy Festival (19 Oct.) cost £169.15 at B. A week later, the same room cost £118.15.
If you can be flexible and want to know dates to avoid—or you’re looking for a big event to pass your time—check out sites such as W, which allow you to search for events in the UK by city, date and category.
STAYAWAY FROM THE STATION If traveling to your destination by train, you may want to find a good base close to the station, but you could end up paying more for the sake of convenience at the start of your holiday.
Don’t be too choosy about the part of town you stay in. Booking two months in advance, the cheapest room at Travelodge’s Central Euston hotel in London for Saturday 22 September was £95.95. A room just a tube(地铁) journey away at its Covent Garden hotel was £75.75. And at Farringdon, a double room cost just £62.95.
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF Really central hotels in cities such as London, Edinburgh and Cardiff can cost a fortune, especially at weekends and during big events. As an alternative consider checking into a self-catering flat with its own kitchen. Often these flats are hidden away on the top floors of city centre buildings. A great example is the historic O’Neill Flat on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, available for £420 for five days in late September, with room for four adults.
GET ON A BIKE London’s ‘Boris bikes’ have attracted the most attention, but other cities also have similar programmes that let you rent a bicycle and explore at your own pace, saving you on public transport or car parking costs.
Among the smaller cities with their own programmes are Newcastle (casual members pay around £1.50 for two hours) and Cardiff (free for up to 30 minutes, or £5 per day).
6.The Brighton Comedy Festival is mentioned mainly to show big events may __________.
A.help travelers pass time
B.attract lots of travelers to the UK
C.allow travelers to make flexible plans
D.cause travelers to pay more for accommodation
7.“Farringdon” in Paragraph 5 is most probably __________.
A.a hotel away from the train station
B.the tube line to Covent Garden
C.an ideal holiday destination
D.the name of a travel agency
8.The passage shows that the O’Neill Flat __________.
A.lies on the ground floor
B.is located in central London
C.provides cooking facilities for tourists
D.costs over £100 on average per day in late September
9.Cardiff’s program allows a free bike for a maximum period of __________.
A.half an hour B.one hour
C.one hour and a half D.two hours
10.The main purpose of the passage is __________.
A.to tell visitors how to book in advance
B.to supply visitors with hotel information
C.to show visitors the importance of self-help
D.to offer visitors some money-saving tips
C(2014天津卷)
“Dad,” I say one day,‘let’s take a trip. Why don’t you fly and meet me?”
My father had just retired after 27years as a manager for IBM. His job filled his day, his thought, his life. While he woke up and took a warm shower, I screamed under a freezing waterfall in Peru(秘鲁). While he tied a tie and put on the same Swiss watch, I rowed a boat across Lake of the Ozarks.
My father sees me drifting aimlessly, nothing to show for my 33 years but a passport full of funny stamps. He wants me to settle down, but now I want him to find an adventure.
He agrees to travel with me through the national parks. We meet four weeks later in Rapid City.
“ What is our first stop?” asks my father.
“What time is it?”
“Still don’t have a watch?”
Less than an hour away is Mount Rushmore. As he stares up at the four Presidents carved in granite(花岗岩), his mouth and eyes open slowly, like those of little boy.
“Unbelievable,” he says, “How was this done?”
A film in the information center shows sculptor Gutzon Borglum devoted 14 years to the sculpture and then left the final touches to his son.
We stare up and I ask myself, Would I ever devote my life to anything?
No directions, no goal. I always used to hear those words in my father’s voice. Now I hear them in my own.
The next day we’re at Yellowstone National Park, where we have a picnic.
“Did you ever travel with your dad? ”I ask.
“Only once,” he says. “ I never spoke much with my father. We loved each other---but never said it. Whatever he could give me, he gave.”
That last sentence----it’s probably the same thing I’d say about my father. And what I’d want my child to say about me.
In Glacier National Park, my father says, “I’ve never seen water so blue.” I have, in several places of the world, I can keep traveling, I realize--- and maybe a regular job won’t be as dull as I feared.
Weeks after our trip, I call my father.
“The photos from the trip are wonderful,” he says.” We have got to take another trip like that sometime.
I tell him I’ve decided to settle down, and I’m wearing a watch.

A. wants his children to learn from their grandfather
B. comes to understand what parental love means

stepIV: Homework:阅读下面一篇和旅游有关的文章,并翻译成汉语。
I don’t think it is a good behavior to write or carve in the places of interest. Not only does this affect the quality of our places of interest, but also it brings the society bad influence. There is no delay for you to appeal to tourists to change their behavior. I hope that the newspapers can help tourists to stop such bad behavior! We can make it a rule to behave ourselves when traveling. Let’s protect these tourist attractions. Travelers should respect the customs of local people and follow the local rules and regulations. Tourists should not smoke in non-smoking areas or talk loudly. They should learn to keep off the grass and flowers. Some travlers’ rude behavior will create negative influence.
