For over one hundred and fifty years,Americans of all social classes have worn blue jeans.1.________ Whether they are worn for work or for fashion today.Strauss’ invention continues to be popular not only among Americans but also among people around the world.
Levi Strauss was born in Germany in 1829.2.________He grew up in Kentucky before moving to New York in 1847.Before becoming an American citizen and moving to the West in 1853,Strauss worked in his brother’s dry goods business. This gave him a chance to produce his famous invention. After the gold rush of 1949,Strauss decided to move to the West to seek his fortunes.

In 1873,Strauss received a letter from a Jewish tailor named Jacob Davis who had invented a process of connecting pockets with copper rivets (铆钉).This made the pants last a long time.Because Davis did not have the money to patent his idea,he offered to share it with Strauss if Strauss would agree to pay for the patent.4.________.

Growing up is not easy.Sometimes all that is need is someone to rely on.
For many years, she was Mum.My mother was a career woman and has her own problems to take care, but when I needed her,she was always there. Her strength came from anywhere.I don’t quite know, somewhere very deep. She was so strong that she would never break down, even while I went to her with all my littleboy problems and shout at her.
Her strength made me stronger and gave to me courage to try things other thought were impossible.A helping hand is always stronger enough to lift you up.

Ⅴ.书面表达
Dear Chris,
I’m happy to receive your email asking about what we are doing to promote a lowcarbon lifestyle. Now let me tell you something about it.
A campaign with the theme of “Actions Make a Difference” is going on in our school to call for a lowcarbon life. For means of transportation,we now take buses, ride bicycles or walk if we can.Besides,we choose to use ecards instead of traditional greeting cards. We only print things out when necessary, and print doublesided. And we try to save water and electricity in our daily life. For example,we are encouraged to have a shower instead of a bath, which uses far less energy and water. We always remember to switch off all appliances and lights when we’re not using them.
What about you? Looking forward to your reply.
