外国人搭机抵美国国境，必须在最先着陆的机场办理入境手续，亦即在机场接受移民官及海关关员的检验。前者检查旅客来美资格，亦即是否可以入境；后者查验旅客的行李是否应课关税，或有违禁物品应予没收。1、入境检查手续 (1)旅客被引导到入境检查室，按照入境签证的不同，排队等候检查。持非移民签证者(F1)应排在 nonresidents（非移民）的队伍，持移民签证或绿卡者在 citizens/residents（居民）的行列。(2)轮到你受检时，将护照、I-20 或 IAP-66、I-94、及报关单一并交给移民官查验。要知道，持有护照及签证并不保证可以入境。因为签证只给持有人要求入境之权，准其入境与否，则操在移民官身上。移民官会核对黑名单，看看该外国人是否在榜上，如果过去在 移民局有过不良记录，例如曾被递解出境，则入境时即有麻烦。(3)照惯例，移民局官员会问你一些问题，这些问题最主要的是确定你来美之后的住所地(*Univ)、来美的目的(Studing)、及携带多少钱等。不必紧张，从容回答即可。(4)移民局官员问完问题，就会在 I-20 或 IAP-66 及 I-94 上签章盖章注明入境日期，签字注明签证身分及再次合法入境的期限。如果你持(F-1)签证，美国将允许你在美停留至学业完成的必要年限。因此，通常移民官会在 I-94 表的停留期限栏打上 D/S(duration of status)印记。如果你持交换学者(J-1)签证，美国只允许你在特定时间内停留，并必须攻读 IAP-66 上所指明的课程以维持交换学者的身分。无论你持 F-1 或 J-1 1$。(4)国际机场很大，领行李时常容易找错转盘，有时航空公司也会作业疏忽。找不到行李别紧张，持登机证上的行李注册存根向航空公司查询，万一还是找不回来，则须填写报失单，并记下机场服务人员的姓名及电话，以备日后询问。（曾有同学遭遇类似的情况，本想向航空公司索赔数千元，结果航空公司第二天就找到了，还派专人免费送到家。）(5)排队验关时，不妨选最短一行排队受检。不要左顾右盼，犹豫不决，更不可看另一行通关迅速而临时换行，而变成行迹可疑而遭受仔细盘查。面带笑容，态度诚恳，有问必答，但不要多话，以免自找麻烦。(6)检查行李时要递上证件，如海关要求开箱检查，立刻打开受检，不要迟疑。如果验关人员示意通过，也不要怀疑，立刻提出行李离开。按照美国法律，海关人员无权私自打开你的行李，但是如果他们要求你打开，你拒绝，他们有权打开你的行李。(7)如果在行李中被发现有任何禁带物品，是要被当场没收的，原本打包好的行李弄得一团乱，得花点力气让东西归位。但有时运气好，也能快速通关。看好你自己的行李，既不要少也不要多，不要给任何人带行李过海关。小心别人利用你夹带毒品。(8)随时注意自己行李证件，不可离身，以防被人乘机盗取。(9)携带入境的金额超过一万美元，应主动向海关申报，并填报 (1)金银等贵重金属及其制品；(2)外币及其它有价证券；(3)无线电收发报机和通信保密机；(4)贵重中药材及其成药；(5)一般文物；(6)海关限量管理的其他用品 6.文物、书画出境查验手续出国公民、包括入境的华侨，港澳同胞等旅客，如携带在文物商店或友谊商店购买的，或个人所有的文物，一律要事先经文物管理部门鉴定，出境时间持发票和许可证明向海关主
