When my son was eleven years old, he came home from school in tears one day. A couple of the older kids had bullied (欺负) him at the bus stop. Rob wanted to stay home from school so he wouldn’t have to meet the boys.
We called the school. “We’ll be happy to call the boys’ parents, ”we were told, “And you should call the police. ” “We don’t know what we will do yet.” I said. I felt that calling the police was a choice to be used when everything else failed, and I wanted first to consider other ways of dealing with the situation. I asked him to hold off calling the boys’ parents.
The next day was Saturday. Rob happened to look out of the window and said in fear, “There are the boys who beat me up !”Two older boys were standing in front of our house, as if they were waiting for Rob to step outside.
My wife Bev opened the door and said with a smile, “Hi guys. Would you like some ice cream?”They looked at each other in puzzlement. But they were teenagers, after all, so one of them said, “Sure. Why not?”
Bev quickly introduced herself, Rob’s younger brothers and me. She even introduced Rusty, the dog. “And I think you already know Rob, ”she said. Her idea was to help them to see that Rob was a person, not a target. He had a family and even owned a family pet.
Bev drew the boys into chat while we ate ice cream. After a few minutes, she said, “I know there’s been some trouble at the bus stop. I think there may be a misunderstanding. They nodded that there had indeed been trouble at the bus stop. She continued, “Maybe we can talk about the misunderstanding so you can be friends.” We talked until the ice cream was finished. Finally the boys apologized.

You may take it for granted that the frog catches insects easily but have you thought of its powerful weapon—its tongue? Let’s take a look at it,
A frog’s tongue is about a third of the length of its entire body. In comparison, if a human had the same size of the tongue, it would reach the belly button. Unlike a human tongue that attaches at the back of the throat, a frog’s tongue attaches near the back of the jaw (颚). When not in use, the tongue is folded up on the base of the mouth with the tip of the tongue pointing towards the back of the throat.
Frogs can catch a fly with remarkable speed—but the real secret of their insect-catching skill is in the sticky saliva (唾液). It allows the frog to accurately stick out the tongue and catch its prey (猎物). It’s not like having a liquid glue, it’s rather like a sticky tape. The saliva allows a frog to catch insects, mice or even small birds faster than you can blink—five times faster, in fact.
The frog’s tongue’s softness also plays an important role in holding on to prey. This gives the tongue its flexible quality, much like a bungee rope shooting against an insect. Their tongues are ten times softer than human tongues or about as soft as brain tissue. The tongue covers it with sticky saliva before the victim knows what hits it.
What’s next is rather unbelievable. Once tongue and prey are inside the frog’s mouth, the frog’s eyeballs will contract (收缩) into the mouth to remove the meal off the tongue and down the throat. Scientists have been studying this amazing animal for centuries and more are to be discovered about frogs.
28. What is typical of the frog’s tongue?
A. It can reach its belly easily. B. It attaches at the back of the throat.
C. It is folded up in the front of the mouth. D. Its tip points towards the back of the throat.
29. The frog can catch its prey at a very fast speed because of its .
A. sticky saliva and soft tongue B. special liquid and sticky tape
C. long tongue and catching skill D. flexible tongue and brain tissue
30. What can you infer from the last paragraph?
A. The frog’s eyeballs help to catch insects.
B. Scientists are amazed by some strange animals.
C. The frog’s eyeballs help to separate the prey from the tongue.
D. Scientists have discovered the secrets of the frog for centuries.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Unbelievable Animals B. The Extraordinary Frog
C. Animals’ Strange Organs D. The Frog’s Amazing Tongue

It’s an unquestioned truth of modern life: we are starved for time. We try our best to save bits of time here and there. Add it up, and we will finally get to everything we want to do. But bits of time here and there. Add it up, and we will finally get to everything we want to do. But this idea has been completely backward. 36 We build the lives we want, and then time saves itself.
Do we really have no time? “I don’t have time, ”often means “It’s not a priority (优先事项). ”Time is highly flexible. We cannot make more time. However, time will stretch (延展)to accommodate what we choose to put into it. No one will leave the broken water heater aside. So not doing something is not a matter of lacking time;37Actually, it’s a matter of choice.
How do we treat our priorities? First, we need to figure out what our priorities are. Actually we may give ourselves a performance review. What three to five things did we do that made it so amazing? Next, we can write them into next year’s performance review. We will have a
