Fourteen-year-old girl Du Bingzi was walking towards her home. Suddenly a man stopped her and shouted, "Give me your money!"
Du's hands were caught by the man. But in one quick movement, she took back her arms and started to scream for attention. The man ran away without getting any of her money.
Du is a student from Beijing No. 25 Middle School. Her teacher Chen Han has started giving his students an unusual lesson: self-protection. Lucky Du had just learned how to escape(逃跑) from an attack.
The school has taught self-protection for four years. During this time, about 5,000 students have learned to how to protect themselves.
According to a new Ministry of Education (教育部) survey, students' safety has become a big problem. Nearly 50 percent of students say they are worried about robbery on the way to and from school.

One of the most well-known directors of our time is Stephen Spielberg. He was born in Cincinnati on 18 December 1946. His father was an electric engineer(工程师) and his mother was a performing pianist. His sister, Anne Spielberg, became a screen writer who wrote the stories for many famous films.
Stephen had always wanted to be a director ever since he was a young boy. When he was just 13 years old, he made a 40-minute film. It won a local competition. Three years later, he produced a film called Firelight, which made one hundred dollars’ profit (利润) at the cinema in his hometown. Many of the ideas from this film were later used for one of his most famous films called Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
When he was 18 years old, he wanted to go to film school so that he could improve his skills and become an even better director. Even though he had failed to get into the school he wanted to go to, he didn’t let this stop him following his dream to become a great director.

Very few people look forward to and enjoy exams. That doesn’t have to mean that you should be afraid of them, though. The following tips will help you get through that terrible exam period.
Here are eight steps to help you during exams:
◆Make sure you know how much time you will have in the exam, and how many questions there will be. Then you can divide your time among the questions to make sure that they all get answered.
◆When you’re doing an exam that involves(涉及) long answers, it is a good idea to leave some space at the end of the answer so that you can add any extra comments that might come to mind when you reread your paper.
◆Don’t spend all of your time only on questions that you know the answer to because you will get a worse mark for answering some questions very well and some not at all.
◆It is worth taking a little extra time to make sure that your handwriting is neat. Then the examiner will be able to read it! Try to avoid spelling mistakes too!

◆Don’t try to discuss the exam after you’ve finished it. If you’ve got different answers from your friends, there’s no point worrying about it.
