A Teaching Plan for Interesting English 趣味英语教案 Restaurant English Teaching time : one period Knowledge aims: 1. Important words and phrases: Refreshment stand, snack bars, Cereal, Buttered toast, Mashed potatoes, appetizer, ketchup, 2. Important sentences: They cannot afford the time for shopping and cooking and eating at proper dinner tables. What can I offer you, sir? How do you want your eggs? What will it be for you? Is this to go or to eat here? Ability aims: 1. Develop students’ speaking ability by practicing making up dialogues and acting out. 2. Get the Ss to learn hoe to express request and ordering food or something else. Emotional aims: Train the students’ ability to cooperate with others. Teaching importance: 1 Train the students’ speaking ability. 2 Learn and use some expressions about request , including the ability of making up dialogues according to the given situation. Teaching difficulties: Train the students’ ability to use the useful repressions to make up dialogues according to the given situation.. Teaching tools: A projector , the blackboard. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greeting: T: Good afternoon, boys and girls. S: Good afternoon,. Step 2 Lead in. Questions for Discussion 1. What are some of the most popular fast food in America? Possible answer: They are hamburger, hot dogs, French fries, fried chicken and pizza. If you want a hamburger, hotdog or fied potato, you can go to those REFRESHMENT STANDS or SNACK BARS, which also sell soft drinks. You can find these stalls everywhere, parks, theatre entrance, airport, bus stop, railway station, etc. The price there is very low and the food is excellent. And also if you want to find a better place to enjoy your hamburger, you can go to the FAST FOOD CHAINS. The Italian food is very popular in America. You can buy it at a PIZZA STAND. It's easy to find those stands, but remember, if you choose to stay there enjoying your food, you should pay some tips after finishing the meal. 2. Why do you think fast food restaurants do such a good business? Possible answer: Many people are very busy. They cannot afford the time for shopping and cooking and eating at proper dinner tables. Most people find restaurant convenient, cheap and fast. Step 3 Actual practice T: we know the kinds of foods in America, what more ,we have to know how to order food in restaurant. Today we are going to learn it. T: As usual , people in America will make a reservation to book their table before they go to the restaurant. And then waiter will show them to their table directly. Task1: Having Breakfast 1. Useful Expressions Explain some useful expressions to the students. Role A Role B What can I offer you? Fruit juice Refreshment Cereal How do you want your eggs? Anything more? What have you got? I’d like to have…. A galls of tomato juice Bacon Buttered toast I like my bacon very crisp. Fried That is enough. 2. Situation You go to a restaurant to have breakfast. The waiter is ready to help. You want to know what they have and the waiter tells you that they serve fruit juice, cakes , refreshments and everything. You tell him you want to have a glass of tomato juice, a loaf of bread, crisp bacon and eggs. 3. Make up a dialogue according to the directions. Give students several minutes to make up a dialogue with some useful expressions according to the situation. Then ask some pairs of them to act their dialogue out. 4. Sample dialogue Show them one sample dialogue. A: What can I offer you, sir? B: What have you got this morning? A: Fruit juice, cakes, refreshments and everything. B: I would like to have a glass of tomato juice, please. A: Any cereal, sir? B: Yes, a loaf of bread. A: And eggs of something? B: Yeah, bacon and eggs. I like my bacon very crisp. A: How do you want your eggs? B: Fried, please. A: Anything else, sir? B: No, that is enough. Thank you. Task 2 : Having Dinner 1. Useful Expressions Explain some useful expressions to the students. Role A Role B Are you ready to order? Your salad? Blue comes with potatoes French fries Mashed potatoes How do you like your steak? To start with An appetizer of oysters The Chef’s Salad Steak A baked potato would be fine. Well done (medium/rare), please. 2. Situation You are now in the restaurant having dinner. You are ordering an appetizer of oysters, Chef’s Salad and New York steak. At the same time, the waiter wants to make sure what kind of dressing you would like on your salad, what you would like to have for your main course, whether you would like a baked potato, French fries or mashed potatoes, etc. 3. Make up a dialogue according to the directions. Give students several minutes to make up a dialogue with some useful expressions according to the situation. Then ask some pairs of them to act their dialogue out. 3. Sample dialogue Show them one sample dialogue. B: Are you ready to order, sir? A: Yes. I will start with an appetizer of oysters. B: And what would you like to have for your main course? A: I think I will have the New York steak. B: That comes with potatoes. Would you like a baked potato, French fries or mashed potatoes? A: A baked potato would be fine. Task 3: Having Fast Food 1. Useful Expressions Role A Role B What will it be for you? To go Service counter Hamburger French fries Coke Can I have some ketchup, please? 2. Situation You are in a fast food restaurant, ordering two hamburgers and French fries, and two cokes. And you will eat in the restaurant. 3. Make up a dialogue according to the directions. Give students several minutes to make up a dialogue with some useful expressions according to the situation. Then ask some pairs of them to act their dialogue out. 4. Sample dialogue Show them one sample dialogue. A: Yes, sir. What will it be for you? B: Two hamburgers and French fries. A: Is there anything else? B: Give me two cokes, please. A: Is this to go or to eat here? B: We will eat here. A: Here you are. That is eight fifty. B: And can I have some ketchup, please? A: It’s on the service counter over there? Task 4: The Wrong Food 1. Useful Expressions Role A Role B Come for a second . Make a mistake . Soup Is there anything wrong ? I will bring you a hot one right away. 2. Situation You are in the restaurant, complaining about the wrong food and the cold soup the waiter had brought. The headwaiter asks what is wrong. He explains that the orders must be confused and also promised to bring a hot soup. And he expressed his apology to you. 3. Make up a dialogue according to the directions. Give students several minutes to make up a dialogue with some useful expressions according to the situation. Then ask some pairs of them to act their dialogue out. 5. Sample dialogue Show them one sample dialogue. A: Waiter, can you come here for a second, please? B: Yes, is there something wrong? A: I think you have made a mistake. This isn’t what I ordered. B: I am sorry. I must have confused the orders. A: And also, this soup is cold. B: I am really sorry. I will bring you a hot one right away. Step 4 summary T: Ok! All of you have done a good job.
