Unit9 What does he look like? Section A Period1 (1a-2c) 济源市太行路学校 席小软 Hello! Everyone , I’m very glad to have this opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas . My topic is “What does he look like ?” from Book 2, Unit9 Section A (1a-2c)of go for it . Part1 : The teaching material. This is an important lesson in this unit .In this lesson ,the students will learn some new words and phrases to describe people’s looks . They will do some listening , speaking and writing. Part two :The teaching aims . 1.Aims of knowledge. (1)Learn the new words and expressions in this period. (2)Learn how to describe people’s looks. 2. Aims of ability. (1) Develop the students’ ability of listening and speaking. (2) Train their ability of communication. 3. Aims of emotion. Make the students describe different people to improve their friendship. Part three : Key points and difficult points. 1. Master the new words. 2. Use these words and phrases to describe people’s looks. Part four : The teaching methods. This period is close to our daily life .so I decided to choose the situation teaching method , give the situation to the students , and make them learn how to describe people’s looks. Then let them practice the knowledge by listening and speaking, give them more chances to learn by doing and using. In order to make the class lively and make the students learn it easily , I will use the CAI and a recorder as teaching aids. Part five : The teaching procedures. Step I. Lead-in. 1.Free talk. “Good morning .How are you?” “ What day is it today?” “What do you do on weekends ?” “Do you like watching TV?” “Do you know him?” 2.Describe the picture with the words they’ve learned. Lead them to answer ,“He is short. He has short hair. He is funny.” (Purpose of my designing : I think it’s important to form a better English surrounding for the students and it’s necessary to provide a situation to review learned knowledge.) Step II. New words. 1. Use some pictures to teach new words . 2. Finish 1a. (Purpose of my designing :This can make students remember the words easily.) Step III. New sentences. 1. Show two pictures, then make a dialogue with the students. I’ll ask “What does he look like?”, “What does he look like?”. lead them to answer “He is /has…” 2. Show more pictures , Let the students describe them. First in class, then in pairs. Let the students pay attention to the use of “has ”and “is”.( Purpose of my designing :I use the CAI to show many pictures , I think it can make the students interested in learning. Step IV. Listening(1b). In this part ,the students will finish 1b, then check the answers. Before listening. Ask the students to look through the conversation in the picture quickly. While listening . Ask the students to listen to the tape and fill in the blanks. After listening. Let the students repeat the conversation after the tape. After that , explain the question : Is he short or tall? Does Sally have long or short hair ? 是一般选择疑问句。 一般选择疑问句的结构:一般疑问句+or +被选择部分?回答时不能用“Yes”或 “No”.要用一个完整的句子或其省略形式。语调一般是前升后降。 (Purpose of my designing :To prepare for the next listening ) Step V. Pairwork. Let the students make a dialogue in pairs ,and then choose some pairs to show the dialogue. (Purpose of my designing :Let the students have a chance to practice their listening and speaking ability ,develop the students ability of communication and their ability of co-operation) Step VI. Listening (2a,2b). Before listening. Ask the students to read the questions correctly in 2a. Encourage them to guess the answers. While listening . The first time ,the students listen to the tape and answer the questions . The second time ,the students look at he chart and listen to the tape ,then fill in the chart. After listening .Ask the students to read and recite the tapescript. They should pay attention to “is” and “has”. (Purpose of my designing :This can train students' listening habits and skills to solve the problem ) Step VII. Guessing game. Play the game “Who is your best friend?” with the students. I’ll explain how to do it. I’ll say “My best friend is one of them. Can you guess who she is? You can ask me like this: Who is your friend? Is she tall or short? Is she heavy or thin? Does she have long or short hair?...I’ll answer each question.” then ask some students to guess who my friend is. (Purpose of my designing :This part can make the students practice he target language and prepare for the next step. ) Step VIII. Survey. First ,Make a survey. Interview two students in the class.Let the students use the sentences “Is he …or…, Does he have…or…?”and then fill in the chart. Who is your best friend in your group? Interviewee (Example) Wei Suxia Friend’s looks is tall, thin has long hair Guessing result Li Meng Second, ask some students to report it. For example: Wei Suxia’ s friend is Li Meng. She is tall .She has long hair…. (Purpose of my designing : Let the students consolidate the target language by doing and using ) Step IX. Homework. Write a short passage to describe their favorite teacher . At last is my blackboard design Unit 9 What does he look like? Section A(1a-2c) A: What does he/she look like? B: He/She has short /long /curly/straight hair. He/She is tall /short/thin/heavy. He/She is of medium build/of medium height. 6
