The laptop is a machine which can be a mobile office; it can be used to entertain us and people can play computer games on them. One machine can perform many tasks at the same time. Laptops are advanced machines, and they can be very expensive. When we spend much money on something, we should take good care of it. I know some people who buy a new laptop every year. Common problems are the breaking of the screen, the breaking of joints of the laptop, display problems, and keyboard problems.
Different problems will always come up with machines, and they cannot be avoided(避免). Old machines will always have to be replaced by new ones. Animals, including insects, do not have a language like ours. They do not talk to each other in words and sentences. But if we watch them, we can see that they do have ways of communicating with each other.
Can you see the rabbit’s tail? When rabbits see this white tail moving up and down, they run too. They know that there is danger. The rabbit has told them something without making a sound. It has given them a signal.
Many other animals use this kind of language. When a cobra(眼镜蛇) is angry, it raises its hood(颈部褶皱) and makes itself look fierce. This warns other animals. When a bee has found some food, it goes back to its home. It cannot tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it does a little dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is.
Some animals say things by making sounds. A dog barks(吠叫), for example, when a stranger comes near. A cat purrs(猫发出的呼噜声) when pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning. Sometimes we human beings speak in the same way. We make sounds like “Oh!” or “Ah!” when we are frightened or pleased or when we drop something on our toes.
But we have something that no animals have—a large number of words which have the meanings of things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other all kinds of different information in words and sentences, which no other animals can do. No other animals have so wonderful a language as we have.

Atlanta was a Greek princess. She was very beautiful and could run faster than any man in Greece. But she was not allowed to run and win glory for herself in the Olympic Games. She was so angry that she said to her father that she would not marry anyone who could not run faster than her. Her father said that she must marry, so Atlanta made a bargain with him. She said to him, “These are my rules. When a man says he wants to marry me, I will run against him. If he cannot run as fast as me, he will be killed. No one will be pardoned.”
Many kings and princes wanted to marry Atlanta, but when they heard of her rules they knew it was hopeless. So many of them sadly went home, but others stayed to run the race. There was a man called Hippomenes who was amazed when he heard of Atlanta’s rules, “Why are these men so foolish?” he thought. “Why will they let themselves be killed because they cannot run as fast as this princess?” However, when he saw Atlanta come out of her house to run, Hippomenes changed his mind, “I will marry Atlanta—or die!” he said.
The race started and although the man ran very fast, Atlanta ran faster. As Hipponeses watched he thought, “How can I run as fast as Atlanta?” He went to ask the Greek Goddess of Lovefor help. She promised to help him and gave him three golden apples. She said, “Throw an apple in front of Atlanta when she is running past. When she stops to pick it up, you will be able to run past her and win.” Hippomenes took the apples and went to the King. So the
