l How to write a diary in English
1。 Format:
a。 Write down the date, the day and the weather on the first line. The date and the day are on the left, while the weather is on the right.
b。 Write the body part. Write this part on the second line.

Write the diary in the first person。

Write the diary in chronological order.

Casual and informal: express a personal viewpoint with reactions, reflections and feelings。

The text is a diary。 There is a long tradition of writing and sometimes publishing diaries in Western literature. The text has typical features of a diary。 It is a first person account, written daily about events in which the writer has participated. It is written in a casual, informal style, expressing a personal viewpoint with reactions, reflections and feelings。 The writer's personality is evident, in this case through humor and exaggeration。 It is written in the first person and with the simple present tense。

A coffee morning refers to an informal gathering with coffee, where people with a common interest meet for an hour or so and get to know each other better. In this case it’s for the new students, but it might be for residents in a neighborhood or for new neighbors。
Difficult Sentences
I meet my tutor, who … looks determined to be pleasant.
Ø Meaning:Professionally, tutors should be pleasant, but the writer gives a satirical note here。 The tutor looks determined to be pleasant, but he is not really pleasant by nature or he treats the meeting merely as a duty。
Ø Translation:我见到了我的导师,他个子高高的,肩膀厚实,好像打定了主意要逗人开心。

Students sometimes take a gap year after leaving school and before going to university to widen their experience and, generally, to earn money。 Some students choose a temporary job in a field related to what they intend to study (this helps their studies and improves their prospects for employment later)。 Other students travel around their country or to other countries to find out more about other cultures, learn another language, and gain experience of different aspects of life.
Difficult Sentences

Ø Meaning:This sentence is exaggerated and humorous, emphasizing the gap between the writer and Sophie – Sophie seems much more intelligent, knowledgeable and enthusiastic than the writer。
Ø Translation:她给我留下了深刻的印象,我觉得自己太无知了,甚至不配跟她呼吸同样的空气。

Difficult Sentences
For some reason, I have to swear that I won’t damage the books or break the library rules, and if I do, I’ll be sent to prison。
Ø Meaning:Again this is humor through exaggeration。 All libraries have rules, but those who break the rules are unlikely to go to prison. The expression for some reason indicates that the writer doesn’t understand why she needs to swear to follow the library rules. She is mildly protesting against this。
Ø Translation:不知为什么,我必须发誓不损坏书籍、不违反图书馆的规定,否则我就要被当作罪犯送进监狱。
