Step I Review and lead in
Review the language points of Lesson 46 Keep Trying。
T: Who can tell me what is your favorite job in the future?
S1: I want to be a translator.
S2: I want to be a computer programmer。
S3: I want to be a diplomat to do more things for our country。
T: Wonderful! Did you notice that they have something in common? Who can tell me what it is?
S: Excellent English!
T: You got it! So, the better your English is, the brighter future you will have. Today we will learn Lesson 46 Your Future and English。
Step II Speaking
Get the students to talk about questions in THINK ABOUT IT, and help them to understand the text better。
T: Now let’s come to THINK ABOUT IT. Look at the questions and have a discussion in pairs。
Give the students enough time to discuss in pairs and then ask some of them to give their opinions.
T: The first question, volunteers?
S: I can see English words on the advertisement boards and some product introductions. I often go to English corner in my city to practice my English。
T: Well done! What jobs need English?
S: Computer programmer, hotel waiter / waitress, scientist, and journalist。
S: Translator, diplomat and businessperson.
T: Wonderful! There are so many jobs that need English. So, you see, learning English is very important. Good English can help us own a good future。
Step III Listening
Get the students to listen to the text and answer some questions.
T: Listen to the tape and answer the questions shown. While listening, you should pay more attention to the information about these questions.
1. Where does a diplomat work and what does a diplomat represent?
2. What does a computer programmer do?
3. Why does a journalist need to know English?
Play the tape recorder and after that ask some of them to give the answers.
T: Who can answer the questions, volunteer?
S1: A diplomat works at the United Nations and other places around the world. A diplomat represents his or her country。
S2: A computer programmer makes computers work。
S3: Because they can understand the world's news with English。
T: Well done!
Step IV Reading
Get the students to read the text and then explain some language points to them to help them to know this text better。
T: Read the text silently and underline the sentences you don’t understand.
Then explain the language points to the students on the slide。

Step V Speaking
Ask the students to talk about the topic in LET’S DO IT。
T: You have learnt some English in class。 Now talk about a time when you used English outside of school in small group。
S: Last Friday, on my way home and I met a foreigner。 He asked me how he could get to the nearest post office. I told him to turn left at the first corner, and the post office is just at the end of that road. I felt very happy, because I can help the foreigner with English.
T: You are great! Imagine what would happen if you met an English—speaking person。
S: I will try my best to use the English I have learnt in class to communicate with him to help him and practice my English.
T: Good idea! As we all know, practice makes perfect。 Choose the most interesting story and share it with another group.
