Let's try doing the following experiment.
What to do：
Use string to hang a paper clip or other small object at about chest(胸部) level.
Pick up a stick, such as a broom handle. Take three or four steps away from the paper clip.
Now close one eye and walk toward the paper clip. Try to touch it with the tip of the stick. If you miss, try again, still keeping one eye closed. Now try it with both eyes open and see if it's easier to do.
How it works：
In the experiment, you have to judge how far away the paper clip is. Your brain has several ways of doing this.
One simple way depends on how much your eye has to focus(聚焦) itself. Using only one eye, most people will find it difficult to touch the paper clip on the first try, but the brain still gets some information about distance—though not much.
Your brain can judge distance much better when you look at something with both eyes. In fact, your brain has more than one way to use both eyes in judging distance. For example, to see anything clearly, you have to make both of your eyes point at the object. When you look at a nearby object, your eyes turn inward. You can feel this happening if you look at the tip of your finger and move your finger toward your nose.
Your brain gets information from the eyes about how much they are pointing toward each other. Using that information, the brain can tell how far away any object is, whether it is a basketball or a paper clip.

The way we spend our time can be divided into three “bottles”. These are the necessary tasks bottle, the voluntary（自愿的）tasks bottle and the happiness bottle.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks bottle with useful things, like making money, doing housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another bottle with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This bottle gets filled with tasks like taking children to activities, cooking family meals, and doing laundry. Those bottles are very important. If we don’t fill them each day, our family won’t run properly.
However, we often forget to fill the third bottle ---- the happiness bottle that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies by, and before we know it, it is time for bed. We all have days like that.
This is why each day we have to make an effort to fill our happiness bottle. I fill mine by going to the dancing class. And I always leave classes more happily than when I enter. This week, I had the pleasure of taking part in a guitar practice in my neighborhood. We show our musical talent and practice music for charity. It was a time of fun, friendship and music-making. At the end of the evening, my happiness bottle was filled to top.

Imagine having a ear made out of an apple. It seems like a crazy idea from a horror movie. But it could happen in the near future.
Canadian biophysicist Andrew Pelling used an apple to grow a human ear. He think fruit and vegetables can be used to cheaply repair human body parts in the future.
Scientists have been trying to grow organs (器官) in labs to replace our old ones. But it is a hard job. For example, liver cells (肝细胞) can grow in a lab, but he cells still need things like blood vessels (血管) to actually work. These things have to grow inside a scaffold(支架).
In the past, scientists have used man-made materials, animals parts and even dead people as scaffolds. But that has proved to be difficult and expensive.
Pelling and his team, however, found the apple to be a cheap and easy-to-use scaffold.
They first cut an apple into the shape of an ear. Then they used a special way to take out the apple’s cell and make it a scaffold. The team then added human cells to the apple, and watched it grow.
“You can implant these scaffolds into the body, and the body will send in cells and a blood supply and actually keep these things alive,” Pelling said during a Ted Talk speech.
The team put the apple scaffold inside a living mouse and the mouse’s cells slowly took over the pieces of apple.
Now Pelling is thinking of other fruit, plants or vegetables to use.
He says that the shape of flower petals could be perfect for repairing skin. And asparagus(芦笋) could fix a broken spine(脊柱).
Now, Pelling and his team are trying hard to put these crazy ideas into reality.

Globalization means that people, ideas, technology, money, services and many other things are moving between countries and changing the way people think and act.
Not everyone thinks the same way about globalization. Some people think it is bad，and some people think it is good. Some believe that globalization helps rich people get richer and makes poor people poorer. Globalization has had a very strong influence on jobs all over the world. For some workers，such as engineers, lawyers and bankers, globalization has been a good development. These workers are able to successfully compete（竞争）globally and have seen an increase in their pay. But for those who work in factories or in the service industry（at hotels，shops and restaurants）,it has not been good. Workers from poorer countries are trying to get these types of jobs. They will do the same job for less money. This decreases the pay for that job，so people get paid less to do it.
Cultures have also been affected by globalization. Foods such as Japanese noodles，Indian curry and French cheeses have spread around the world. We can also see an increase in the use of Chinese characters（汉字）in tattoos（文身）. Some people get these tattoos but they don't really know what the characters mean. Globalization also affects the film industry. Most people have seen American movies. But because of globalization，Korean. Indian and Japanese movies have become more worldwide.
No one knows the future of globalization. Most experts agree that it will continue to grow and have an increasingly greater influence on people’s lives in the future.
