第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

"A good parent" can be a confusing phrase. It is almost impossible for one person to be "a good parent" at all stages of a child's life. Some parents are at their best before their children begin to speak. Others are most successful before their children enter elementary school. Still others make their finest contribution to older children or teenagers. Every parent can understand one stage of a child's development better than another. It is hard for a person to possess superior capacities throughout the entire period of a child's growth.
A mother might be "a good parent" from her baby's birth until it is three; that is the period when it needs her protection and loving care. Then the start of her child's independence might upset and alarm her, and she might then become less helpful for a few years. A father might be awkward(笨拙的) and uncomfortable with a younger child, but could turn into an excellent parent when the child is old enough to be taught the skills of cycling, fishing and so on, or to be taken on trips. Some parents feel easier with boys, and others with girls -- and then only at certain ages or stages.
It is important for parents to understand and accept their own limitations in these matters, just as they must accept the child’s faults of personality and limitations of talent. Otherwise, fathers and mothers will feel guilty and blame themselves for weaknesses that may not be their faults. Much of the guilt experienced by modern parents comes from the mistaken feeling that they ought to be all things at all times to the child, which is clearly mistaken. In past ages, grandparents and uncles and aunts lived with the family, and provided different kinds of support; in our present "nuclear" family, too many roles are demanded of the two parents, which they cannot possibly fulfill.
21. Confusing arises(出现) about what it means to be "a good parent" because _____.
A. it is normal to be a successful parent during most of a child's development
B. most parents are only good at helping older children or teenagers
C. parents are usually at their best before their children go to school
D. parents do not realize they cannot perform equally well through a child's growth
22. If we consider the relative values of mothers and fathers, it is clear that ______.
A. either parent may be effective with children at some stage
B. only fathers can teach cycling, fishing and so on
C. only mothers can succeed with very small children
D. parents must be better with children of their own sex
23. Parents would feel guilty if _________.
A. their children can’t accept their own limitations of talent
B. they don't know their limitation in raising children
C. their grandfathers and uncles and aunts don't live with them
D. they realize their weaknesses in raising children
24. Parents of nuclear families sometimes feel at a loss because __________.
A. they believe that such a family prevents the healthy growth of a child's personality and talent
B. they dislike the support that other family members give to their children
C. they do not always have the help of other family members in child-raising
D. they no longer regard grandparents, uncles and aunts as good educators of their children

Our spiritual intelligence quotient (精神智商)~,or SQ, helps us understand ourselves, and live fuller, happier lives.
Though we're all born with SQ, most of us don’t even realize that we have it. Fortunately, you don't have to sign up for classes to learn how to improve your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding.
Sit Quietly. The process of developing spiritual intelligence begins with solitude(独处)and silence. To tune in to your spirit, you have to turn down the volume (强度) in your busy, noisy, complicated life and force yourself to do nothing at all. Start small by creating islands for silence in your day. In the car, instead of listening to the music, use the time to think. At work, shut the door to your office between meetings, take a few breaths and let them out very, very slowly. Enjoy the stillness in your home after the kids are finally in bed.
Step Outside. For many people, nature sets their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. If you are walking with the dog, take the time to admire flower in bloom; follow the light of a bird and watch clouds float overhead.
Ask Questions of Yourself. Ask open--ended questions, such as "What am I feeling? What are my choices? Where am I heading?"
But don't expect an answer to arrive through some supernatural form of e--mail. "Rarely do I get an immediate answer to my question," says Reverend Joan Carter, a Presbyterian minister in Sausalito, California. "But later that day I suddenly find myself thinking about a problem in a perspective(角度) I never considered before. '
Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut(本能的) feeling to realize danger, spiritual intelligence pushes us, not away from, but towards some action that will lead to a greater good.
25. The passage is mainly about_______ .
A. what your SQ is and in what way it can benefit our life

A. there are no immediate answers to your questions
B. e--mails can't keep working out a problem
C. the more questions you ask, the better answers you'll get
D. changing your way of thinking might help you solve a problem
28. From the passage, we can know that the most important thing to improve your SQ is_______ .

NEW YORK, May 19—A new, more destructive version of the “Love Bug ” virus is slowly spreading across the world, but so far the damage is small compared with its former version.
The new Love Bug virus creates disorder.
Richard Saunders of anti-viral firm Symantec said the virus only affected a dozen companies around the world.
“While it is a nasty virus, it’s not spreading anywhere near the rate Love But or (last year’s ) Melissa was spreading,” Saunders said.
“New Love” is similar in form to the Love Bug, which swept the world two weeks ago and caused more than $ 10 million in damages. But it’s much more destructive. The virus appears as an attachment to an e-mail whose subject begins with “FW”
If a user clicks on the attachment’s scroll-like icon(卷轴样的图标), every file on his hard drive is destroyed.
“Basically, it’s going to destroy your machine, ” said Eric Chine, chief researcher at Symantec’s anti-virus lad in the Netherlands.
The Love Bug only killed a small set of files, including graphic files. This virus even wipes out the Windows operating system.
Attorney General Janet Reno warned the public at a news conference today to be careful of any suspicious e-mail with attachments. “Do not open it, even it comes from a trusted source.” she said.
Don’t Open That Attachments.
Like the Love Bug, after the e-mail attachment is opened and the virus is carried out, New Love sends itself to everyone in a victim’s Microsoft Outlook address book. Fortunately for users, the lesson is the same as from the Love Bug: If you see a message with an attachment whose name ends in vbs, with a scroll-like icon, don’t click on the attachment. Also like the Love Bug, this virus only affects computers running Windows 98, NT 4.0 Windows 95 with Internet Explorer 5.0 and can only spread if users rely on a Microsoft Outlook address book for e-mail.
Microsoft will soon give a fix for Outlook that warns people or suspicious attachments, the company said.
32.According to the passage, so far the new Love Bug virus _________.
A. has made the whole world disordered
B. causes m
