All equipment should be locked at night and all security measures must be adopted. These checks must be done nightly.

TASK: SAFETY SUPERVISION AND PROCEDURES.
STANDARD: BOTH EMPLOYEES WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT SAFETY PROCEDURES ARE CARRIED OUT, AND THE SUPERVISION OF ALL SAFETY ASPECTS.
PROCEDURE:
The Activities Department is responsible for the safety of all the activities it offers. Both the equipment supervisor and the assistant must be fully aware of all safety procedures and must supervise their implementation.
Specific rules to be adhered to are:
ON THE BEACH
1. Lifejackets should be offered to any guest who goes out on the water.
2. The chase boat should always be available at short notice. It must be equipped with paddles and lifejackets.
3. No boats should go out in weather not suited to the boat or the guest.
4. The Beach Attendant on duty must keep a watch on all boats that are out. In the event that he/she has to go out in the chase boat, the Beach Bure attendant should be informed.
5. A careful watch must be made when children are on the beach or using equipment.

6. All beach swimmers must be watched carefully – in the event of waves or an undercurrent, guests must be warned of the dangers.
7. All equipment in use must be safety checked regularly
8. Before organizing any event or activity near or on the water, all safety considerations should be made. No risks are to be taken. If there is any doubt as to the safety of an event, it will not be carried out. Preparation is vital.
BY THE POOL
9. The beach towel attendant is responsible for the safety of all guests in or near the pool. He/she should keep an eye on all swimmers and be prepared to assist in any first aid or rescue.
10. -- A rescue pole should be easily accessible.
11. -- Chairs should be set back from the pool to avoid any tripping.
12. --A special watch should be carried out when children are - in the pool.
13. -- During all activities, whether land or water based, safety procedures must be carried out.
14. --When preparing an activity, be aware of any potentially dangerous situations which may occur and which could, with proper planning, be avoided.
15. -- With fitness, aerobics and jogging events be sure that all guests are fit enough to partake and that none have serious illnesses or disabilities which could put them at risk. Also ensure regular pulse checks are made during the activity.

17. In swimming activities, be sure to monitor everyone in the pool. Introduce rest breaks where necessary.
In general, safety must be the prime consideration when planning all events.
Before planning, ask yourselves:
18. Is the equipment to be used safe?
19. Have I catered for all possibilities?
20. Is first aid equipment and safety equipment nearby?
21. Do I know what to do in the even t of an emergency?
22. Have I catered for all ages, particularly children?
23. Are any risks involved? If so have they been minimized?
Make sure all questions can be answered correctly before holding any activity.
Other rules may be added in the safety and first aid lecture prepared by the Personnel Department. Those mentioned are to be treated as strict guidelines.

The Tour Desk Orientation will follow certain steps:

This procedure will be carried out in two ways – in a theory lecture and in a practical way at the Tour Desk, involving operational procedures and role play.

PROCEDURE:
1. Introduction on the role and goals of the department and the standards of service we will aim to meet.
2. Explanation of the training schedule for each employee, and shat the training involves, plus the importance of it – schedule given out for both weeks.
3. Showing of departmental structure and line of command. This will be done using a line chart. Reasons for it and the importance of it will be stressed.
4. Explaining of the functions of the department, ie. the product of it, the outlets and equipment, the functions of various job categories. JOB descriptions will be given out and explained thoroughly.
5. How the department relates to other departments- particularly Food and Beverage, Front Desk, Sales.

TASK: TAKING CHILDREN’S AEROBIC ACTIVITY
STANDARD:. THE INSTRUCTOR MUST KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TEACHING ADULT’S AND CHILDREN’S AEROBICS, AND BE ABLE TO CATER FOR BOTH EFFICIENTLY
PROCEDURE:
The instructor should be familiar with the techniques for teaching children from the ‘teaching children’ lecture. Those techniques must be mastered and the skills brought into the teaching of aerobics.
1. The lesson format will be the same as the adults
2. The length of the lesson will be about 45 minutes
3. More encouragement should be given
4. The lesson should be more active with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment
5. Games and fun activities should accompany the aerobics
6. The tennis aerobics is one theme which is done using a U. S. T. A. tape. Other themes can be done using clothing, tapes or other props to promote enjoyment Often children can be asked to instruct.
Children’s aerobics and tennis aerobics can be an asset to a hotel. If enjoyable their parents may return, and if successful the children may try other hotel activities.

STANDARD: THE TEACHER MUST HAVE A KNOWLEDGE OF ALL FORMAS OF AEROBICS ANS MUST KNOW HOW TO VARY THEM
PROCEDURE:
The skill required in the teaching of aerobics is varied and complex. The instructor must know all types of aerobics, the different levels of ability, how to cater for them, and how to sustain interest. The skills learned in the ‘teaching adults’ lesson must be remembered and carried out.
The Aerobics we offer are for intermediate or beginner levels. For either, the following should be carried out.

6. During each stage, pulse checks should be made to give a safety indication
7. Optimum pulse levels should be given before exercising

The instructor must prepare various routines, ensuring continuity and enjoyment and that all safety considerations are met. It is the instructors job to keep all classes up to date and to make use of any new techniques or innovations.

STANDARD:.THE INSTRUCTOR MUST BE ABLE TO COMBINE THE LA FORMS OF NON – IMPACT AEROBICS
PROCEDURE:
The skills required in non – impact aerobics are the same as in normal aerobics. ‘Non – impact’ simply reduces the jarring movements caused by heavy landing exercises, and consequently reduces the risk of injury. This form of exercise can be modified for beginner and intermediate.
Again the format must be:

A non – impact tape will be viewed, followed by the setting up of a non – impact routine. The emphasis must again be on continuity, enjoyment, and safety.

TASK: TEACHING STRETCHING CLASSES
STANDARD: THE INSTRUCTOR MUST BE ABLE TO THACH AND INSTRUCT AND STRETCH CLASS
PROCEDURE:
Stretching is provably the most neglected form of exercise and one of the most beneficial. It can aid flexibility, muscle efficiently and general well – being.
A stretch class is aimed at increasing flexibility and it can incorporate aerobic activity. The bulk of the class must be in the from of different stretches, breathing techniques and partner work. This must be punctuated by aerobic activity which will simulate the effects of circuit training and internal running while promoting increased flexibility and breathing capacity.
The lesson must be set out as follows:

PROCEDURE:
The skills required in the teaching of ‘Swimnastics’ or ‘or ‘aqua – aerobics’ are the same as in aerobics, with the addition of being able to swim and be knowledgeable in resuscitation techniques.
