四、用法及主要句型:
1. can ① 表示“能,会,可以”。
Can you play basketball?
② 表猜测,常用于否定句或疑问句,即can’t,表“一定不是”。
Li Hua can’t be in the classroom.
回答:Yes, ~ can. No, ~ can’t.
Can I help you? ——Yes, please. / No, thanks.
Can I borrow your book?----Yes, of course.
Can I write on the book? ------No, you can’t\mustn’t.
Could \Can you help me?---- Yes,of course.\Certainly.\ Sure.
Could \Can you tell me the way to the zoo?
2. could ①can 的过去式
I could swim when I was seven years old.
②could 开头的疑问句,语气比can委婉。
回答: Yes, ~ can. No, ~ can’t.(或根据语境)
Could I have a drink? Yes, you can.
3.may ① 表示推测,“可能,也许”,用于肯定句。 Eg: He may come tomorrow.
② 表示请求,“可以” Eg: May I borrow your book?
回答:—May I smoke in the room?
—Of course you may[can].
—No, you may not[mustn't,can't].(语气较生硬)
—You'd better not.
—Please don't.
4. should /shouldn’t 表示征求对方意见或劝告:
1) He should get up early.
2) She shouldn’t play computer game too much.
3)You should listen to your teacher.
回答:Yes, ~ should.\ No, ~ shouldn’t.
5.shall用于第一人称(I, we),
1) Where shall we have dinner?
2) Shall we go fishing? -----All right. \OK. \Good idea.
Shall I open the window? Shall we have lunch here?
肯定回答:All right. \OK. \Good idea.否定回答:Sorry, I can’t / I shall not.
6.must ①表示“必须,应该”。
②表示推测,常用在肯定句中,表“一定”。
Eg: There is someone knocking at the door. It must be Jim.
③否定句中,mustn’t 表示禁止,“不允许”。
回答:肯定回答用must,否定回答用needn’t =don’t have to不必要
7.need 需要
肯定句回答用must ,否定句回答用needn’t.
You needn’t come to school so early.
8.表示征求对方的意见,或建议。“你愿意…吗”
