This may be a time when death doesn’t seem to be such a scary thing.Yang Jiang,a famous Chinese writer, died in Beijing on May 25 at the age of 104 . It is a great loss and shock for Chinese literature (文学). But for her, it’s probably like going home.
Born in Beijing, Yang grew up in the south of China. After leaving Soochow University in 1932, Yang Jiang got into the graduate school of Tsinghua University where she met her husband Qian Zhongshu. During 1935-1938, they went to England for further study at Oxford University and the University of London. At that time, she gave birth to their daughter Qian Yuan. Later they studied at Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Paris, France.
In 2003, her book We Three, recalled memories of her husband and her daughter Qian Yuan, who died of cancer one year before her father's death in 1998. After losing her dearest family members,Yang said their deaths have already taken her life away. As she said, the book is her own memory of the three of them. “We three have parted, leaving only me behind to clean up the empty house,” Yang wrote in her book. “I am alone, missing us three.
