A Grandma Writer
Do you know about this grandma? She started writing in her 60s and published her first book at 80. Her name is Yang Benfen.
Grandma Yang, now 82 years old, comes from Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. She did many different jobs, but they all had nothing to do with writing. However, that didn’t stop Grandma Yang from being a writer.
In 2003, Grandma Yang’s mother died. It made her very sad when she thought of the good old days with her mother. So she wanted to write them down. Then Grandma Yang started writing while doing housework. And she wrote most of the stories in the kitchen.
In June 2020, Grandma Yang’s first book, Qiuyuan, came out. It is about her mother’s real life. The book sold very well. Her second book came out in 2021 and the third one in February this year.
Grandma Yang is great, and she has no plans to stop. She is now learning how to use the computer and she says she will keep writing.

International Day of Families
Family is very important to everyone. A strong family can help people feel good about themselves. It can also help make a better world. But today both parents and children are busy. They spend a little time together every day. To let people know family is everything, the UN started the International Day of Families in 1994.
International Day of Families is on May 15 every year. People in many countries celebrate the day with their families. They do many things, like having dinner or a nice talk together.
International Day of Families is a time of celebration. It’s also a time to talk about family problems around the world. Every year there is a theme for the day. This year’s theme is “Families and Urbanization”.
But people in some places think that’s not enough. So they have their Family Day. In Canada, people celebrate Family Day on the third Monday in February. Children don’t go to school on that day. They stay home and have fun with their families.
