8、l bed. For the first time in his life, he became the proud owner of a bed which had springs and a mattress. Because the weather was very hot, he carried the bed on to the roof of his house. He slept very well for the first two nights, but on the third night, a storm blew up. A gust of wind swept the

9、 bed off the roof and sent it crashing into the courtyard below. The young man did not wake up until the bed had struck the ground. Although the bed was smashed to pieces, the man was miraculously unhurt. When he woke up, he was still on the mattress. Glancing at the bits of wood and metal that lay

10、around him, the man sadly picked up the mattress and carried it into his house. After he had put it on the floor, he promptly went to sleep again.Lesson50 Taken for a ride 乘车兜风I love travelling in the country, but I dont like losing my way. I went on an excursion recently, but my trip took me longer

11、 than I expected. Im going to Woodford Green, I said to the conductor as I got on the bus, but I dont know where it is. Ill tell you where to get off, answered the conductor. I sat in the front of the bus to get a good view of the countryside. After some time, the bus stopped. Looking round, I reali

12、zed with a shock that I was the only passenger left on the bus. Youll have to get off here, the conductor said. This is as far as we go. Is this Woodford Green ? I asked. Oh dear, said the conductor suddenly. I forgot to put you off. It doesnt matter, I said. Ill get off here. We are going back now,

Well, in that case, I prefer to stay on the bus, I answered.Lesson51 Reward for virtue 对美德的奖赏My friend, Herbert, has always been fat, but things got so bad recently that he decided to go on a diet. Forest fire are often caused by broken glass or by cigarette ends which people carelessly throw away. Yesterday the firemen examined the ground carefully, but were not able to find any broken g

20、lass. They were also quite sure that a cigarette end did not start the fire. This morning, however, a fireman accidentally discovered the cause. He noticed the remains of a snake which was wound round the electric wires of a 16,000-volt power line. In this way, he was able to solve the mystery. The

21、explanation was simple but very unusual. A bird had snatched up the snake from the ground and then dropped it on to the wires. The snake then wound itself round the wires. When it did so, it sent sparks down to the ground and these immediately started a fire.Lesson54 Sticky fingers 粘糊的手指After breakf

22、ast, I sent the children to school and then I went to market. It was still early when I returned home. The children were at school, my husband was at work and the house was quiet. 24、ceiver. What a mess! There was pastry on my fingers, on the telephone, and on the door-knobs. I had no sooner got back to the kitchen than the door-bell rang loud enough to wake the dead. 25、ms of finding lost treasure almost came true recently. A new machine called The Revealer has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where-it is said-pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bur

26、y gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure. The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground. Very excited, the p

27、arty dug a hole two feet deep. They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless. The party then searched the whole cave thoroughly but did not find anything except an empty tin trunk. In spite of this, many people are confident that The Revealer may reveal something of value fairly so

28、on.Lesson56 Faster than sound! 比声音还快!Once a year a race is held for old cars. A lot of cars entered for this race last year and there was a great deal of excitement just before it began. One of the most handsome cars was a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. The most unusual car was a Benz which had only thre

29、e wheels. Built in 1885, it was the oldest car taking part. After a great many loud explosions, the race began. Many of the cars broke down on the course and some drivers spent more time under their cars than in them ! A few cars, however, completed the race. The winning car reached a speed of forty

30、 miles an hour-much faster than any of its rivals. It sped downhill at the end of the race and its driver had a lot of trouble trying to stop it. The race gave everyone a great deal of pleasure. 45、性;3、建成一个魔芋精粉加工企业,提高魔芋加工技术水平和魔芋产品的质量档次,增加魔芋产品的附加值,提高经济效益,促进魔芋产业可持续发展。(六)项目实施地点及规模1、实施地点:*镇青山村、王排村、黄金坪村、坪庄垅村、洞庭村,黄金村,当家村,提高村为生产基地。2、实施规模:种植魔芋3000亩,年产魔芋6000吨。二、魔芋种植项目背景(一)魔芋对人体健康的价值魔芋又名磨芋,中国古名蒟蒻,传入日本后承袭其名,至今仍称蒟蒻,而在中国蒟蒻之名在民间已失传。中国的魔芋医药历史悠久,约成书于汉末的名医别录已有记载。魔芋的球茎作为中医药,其性寒、味辛、有毒,主要功能为消肿、攻毒,主治痈疮、肿毒、结块等症,以及毒

46、蛇咬伤、肿瘤、颈淋巴结核、疔疮、疝气等,多作外用,内服须久煎。中国的营养和公共卫生专家教授对魔芋的保健、医疗作用作了许多临床试验研究,结论基本一致。魔芋葡甘聚糖属水溶性半纤维素,其突出的营养保健功能在于能发挥膳食纤维对营养不平衡的调节作用,它与白菜、芹菜等蔬菜类中所含非水溶性的纤维,进入人体后原形排出者不同,它能参与人体的代谢作用及影响肠道菌相有利于健康的方向变化。魔芋精粉的主要保健、医疗功能有以下几方面:1、预防和治疗便秘随饮食精化和年龄老化,便秘患者急剧增加,预防便秘主要是饮食中增加膳食纤维的含量,而魔芋就属于优质高膳食纤维食品。2、调节脂质代谢冠心病已成为人类主要死因之一。目前研究结论得

47、出血浆胆固醇水平与动脉粥样硬化和冠心病的发病率密切相关。可溶性膳食纤维通过与肠内胆酸结合,增加胆酸排泄,使体内胆酸合成增加,从而降低血胆固醇水平,还可减少其胆道排泄时积聚形成胆石和胆酸代谢产物的可能致癌作用。据试验,不溶性粗纤维无降血脂效果,而可溶性纤维才有降血脂效果。国内外均有报导,魔芋能显著降低血胆固醇及甘油三脂水平;且血脂达正常水平后不再持续下降,起到调节脂质代谢,预防高脂血症的作用。3、改善糖代谢控制饮食是糖尿病治疗的重要措施。膳食纤维不被消化吸收,不含热量,又有饱腹感,且能减少和延缓葡萄糖的吸收,是糖尿病良好的辅助药物。研究表明,可溶性纤维才有显著改善糖代谢的作用,而不溶性纤维则无明

48、显作用。当前权威研究证实;对糖尿病患者给予魔芋精粉(即粗制葡甘露聚糖),或魔芋食品,均能降低血糖水平。4、减肥作用美国Walsh用双盲法肯定了魔芋的减肥作用。国内也得到进一步证实。膳食纤维在胃内的充盈作用,增加了饱腹感,同时可减少产热营养素的吸收。膳食中增加一定量魔芋可达预防肥胖和缓慢减肥的目的。5、其他作用 文献报道,有不少非淀粉多糖有调节机体免疫功能的作用,能增强非特异性免疫、细胞免疫、体液免疫功能中的一个或几个方面,彭恕生等研究(1994)表明,魔芋精粉能提高正常小鼠和免疫抑制状态小鼠的特异性和非特异性免疫功能,具有免疫调节活性。流行病学调查和部分实验研究表明,膳食纤维对结肠癌、乳腺癌等有一定预防作用。预防癌症的机理可能是可溶性纤维大量吸水稀释了肠道致癌物质和前致癌物的浓度,并加强它们排出体外。张茂玉等研究指出,还影响肠道菌相变化,厌氧菌增加,厌氧菌中的双歧杆菌,有抗肿瘤作用,加速可疑致癌物胆汁酸的代谢产物的排泄。 从以上膳食纤维五个方面的保健和医疗作用看,魔芋主成分葡甘聚糖属可溶性半纤维素,在发挥上述五个方面的作用上其效果远远超过一般蔬菜所含不溶性纤维。(二)魔芋在食品饮料中的应用魔芋是优良的可溶性膳食纤维,有辅助医疗和保健作用,作为食品或添加于食品、饮料中可增进健康,改善品质,自古受到中国和日本人的喜受。1998年中国
