At first it produced farming equipment encompassing the following: - rotary mowers, - silage harvesters - moldboard ploughs Another part of the company's operation also included printing and carpentry. In 1963, the company acquired lands for the construction of production halls (plants) to which production, until then scattered throughout the entire province, was gradually being moved to. A new page in the company’s history was written by the 1976 Enactment of the Nowy Sącz Voivode [Governor of the Province] transferring the Nowosądeckie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego [Terrain Industrial Plant in Nowy Sącz] to the Ministry of Mining and Energetics. The company took on a new name of Nowosądecka Fabryka Urządzeń Górniczych "NOWOMAG" [ “NOWOMAG” Mining Equipment Factory of Nowy Sącz] and began production for the needs of the mining industry: - elements for powered roof supports, - welded engine blocks for electric mining engines, - conveyers for preparation works. Simultaneously, the company continued to carry out its printing operation and the manufacture of chipboard furniture. Between 1982 – 1984, the plant operated as part of the Mining Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers Organization, then next from 1984 to 1988 as part of the “POLMAG” Mining Mechanization Guild Company, and between 1989 – 1990 as part of the "POLMAG-EMAG" Mining Mechanization, Automation and Electronics Company’s structure. Nowomag operates on the market as an individual company since 1990. In 1992, the Plant until then being state owned, is converted into a joint-stock company. From that moment on it functions under the name of Mining Equipment Factory - "NOWOMAG" Joint-Stock Company and implements into its production new equipment such as: - beam stage and longwall scraper conveyers (AFC), - belt conveyers, - elements of conveyer routes, - winning crushers, - electric engine frame - other machinery and equipment made to individual orders. In 1995 the Company’s shares were brought into the National Investment Funds. In 1998 the plant was taken over by Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów S. A. – [Shaft Construction Joint-Stock Company] In the IV Quarter of 2003, the Company was purchased by "FAMUR" Joint-Stock Machinery Factory and since that time it operates within the “FAMUR” Group structure. Presently, the following companies comprise the Group: Fabryka Maszyn „FAMUR” S.A. ["FAMUR" Joint-Stock Machinery Factory], Fabryka Zmechanizowanych Obudów Ścianowych „FAZOS” S.A. [Longwall Powered Roof Supports Factory “FAZOS” Joint-Stock Company], and Fabryka Maszyn Górniczych „PIOMA” S.A. [“Mining Machinery Factory – “PIOMA” Joint-Stock Company] as well as Nowosądecka Fabryka Urządzeń Górniczych „NOWOMAG” S.A. [Mining Equipment Factory in Nowy Sącz – “NOWOMAG” Joint-Stock Company]. 3.4 Fazos史 History: Fazos Powered Longwall Roof Supports Factory – FAZOS SA in Tarnowskie Góry lunched its production operation in July of 1974 based on the HEMSCHEIDT German Company's license. Its first products were wall caving support linings ??? flushing filler supports marked with a symbol - FAZOS 70. The first shield support was produced in 1977, which was designed by the designing engineers of KOMAG company in Gliwice. During the following years increasingly improved shield supports, supports and special supports – more progressively adapted to the more difficult exploitation conditions in the hard coal mines. The “FAZOS” Plant began exporting its products in 1976 – during the subsequent years the sales export participation was gradually increasing (from 25% to over 40%). The main customers of FAZOS export products were: China, Czechoslovakia, Australia and next, to name a few, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Iran. Production of powered longwall roof supports gradually changes from mass production to adapted to specific orders of domestic and foreign customers. FAZOS began to manufacture increasingly more modern supprts designated for mining exploitation wall cavings and hydraulic filler and so called dry filler. Moreover, powered supports were being adapted to operate with other equipment comprising wall complex systems such as shearers and conveyors - manufactured by either domestic or foreign companies. In its already 30-year operation, FAZOS changed and modernized its technology and machine park. The company changed working on universal machine tools to digitally controlled automatic machines and changed its hydraulic cylinder processing technology. The electro-plating plant was modernized and expanded, a significant number of pipe and rod cutting equipment was replaced as was the pistons and cylinders welding line. The operation of the construction-technology infrastructure has also been changed. The speed and precision of designing and engineering calculations as well as documentation archive filing increased significantly with the implementation of a computer design system. In addition to its primary production, that is the manufacture of mining powered support linings, FAZOS undertook successful attempts of launching other products, the example of which can be hoisting devices, valves, self-propelled hydraulic support on caterpillar chassis. On July 1, 1994 the state owned company FAZOS was converted into “FAZOS" S.A. a one-member company of the National Treasury. As of April, 2001 it’s a commercial company with majority of private ownership capital. 3.5 Pioma史 History: Pioma The Mining Machinery Factory - PIOMA was founded in 1956 after converting the newly built Wytwórni Konstrukcji Stalowych „Mostostal" – [Steel Constructions Manufacturing Plant]. This was a period of intense development excavation potential in brown and hard coal mines, thus the decision was made to launch mining production. In 1960, a new iron and steel foundry was opened in PIOMA. The following years brought a dynamic expansion of the company: after construction of a new plant shop PIOMA had a total 47,78 hectares (118,07 acres ) of work area. Many years of scientific and technical working relationship with specialized academic institutions combined with the systematic companydevelopment enabled “PIOMA” to achieve a position of a credible and reliable supplier of equipment to domestic and foreign markets. We commenced our first export production in 1958, delivering to China mechanical coal processing equipment such as jigs, floatation machines, driers, scraper conveyors etc. During the subsequent years, we exported our products to India, Albania, the former Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Iraq, and Syria. The 80’s were a period of intense increase of exporting mining equipment to the former USSR, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, the former East Germany, Yugoslavia, Argentina, India Austria, Hungary and China. The 90’s was a time of developing professional relations with German companies, which became significant customers of PIOMA’s products. We work together with world leading steel construction and machine elements companies in Germany, USA, Sweden, Norway, France and Belgium. In April of 1992, FMG “PIOMA” acquired a status of a joint-stock company and in 2001 was taken over by UTECH Sp. z o.o. – Service Limited Liability company. In December of 2005 the Company was purchased by the FAMUR SA – Machinery Factory and from that time is operating within the Famur Group.
